27 Greyhounds Named to Landmark Conference Fall Academic Honor Roll

TOWSON, Md. --- The Landmark Conference has recognized 365 student-athletes including 27 from Moravian College by selecting them for the 2016 Landmark Conference Fall Academic Honor Roll. The honorees were selected from all eight Landmark Conference institutions.

The Landmark Academic Honor Roll recognizes all fall student-athletes of sophomore standing or older with a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher. The student-athletes must complete the fall season in good standing with their team. All eight Landmark Conference institutions placed at least 15 athletes on the Academic Honor Roll. The Fall Academic Honor Roll begins the academic award season for the conference with the Senior Scholar-Athlete for the fall sports to be named in December.

Moravian had student-athletes from all six of its fall teams that compete in the conference with the women's soccer squad leading the way with 10 honorees apiece. The women's cross country team had five selections while the women's volleyball and men's soccer programs each had four honorees. The field hockey team had three student-athletes make the list while the men's cross country team had one selection.

The women's soccer team reached the Landmark Conference Championship match this fall, posting a 10-7-1 record, and the squad had two seniors – forwards Hanna LaFronz and Valentina Margiottiello named to the Academic Honor Roll. Joining the duo were juniors forward Abby Guman, goalie Jessica Lawton, defender Lauren Bertucci and defender Maria Manz and sophomores midfielder Makenzie Koziel, midfielder Madison Walker, defender Paige Kovacs and midfielder Shae Duka. Bertucci was named to the Landmark All-Conference First Team this fall while Lawton and Duka earned spots on the All-Conference Second Team. LaFronz is a three-time selection to the Landmark Conference Fall Academic Honor Roll and was also named to the Landmark All-Sportsmanship Team this fall while Lawton and Bertucci earned the honor for a second straight season.

The women's cross country team finished second in the 2016 Landmark Conference Championships and seventh in the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional this past weekend. The squad had three seniors named to the Fall Academic Honor Roll including Meg Brockett, Sarah Hughes and Larissa Strycharz. Junior Kirsten Lebo and sophomore Alyssa Limbaugh also made the Academic Honor Roll. Brockett and Hughes have qualified for the 2016 NCAA Division III National Championship race on Saturday, November 19 after Brockett finished second and Hughes took 11th at the NCAA Regional. Brockett was also honored as the Landmark Conference Runner of the Year after winning the individual title at the conference championships, and Hughes joined her on the All-Conference First Team with a runner-up finish. The duo each made the Landmark Fall Academic Honor Roll for the third straight year while Lebo earner her second straight appearance, and she is also a member of the Landmark Conference Fall All-Sportsmanship Team.

The men's soccer squad posted an 8-4-5 record this fall and competed in the postseason for the first time since 2003 with a berth in the 2016 ECAC Division III Tournament where the Greyhounds tied William Paterson, 0-0 in double overtime but failed to advance after penalty kicks. Senior midfielder Robert McKinley, juniors midfielder Connor Phillips and defender Corey Klaskin and sophomore defender Michael Guarino all made the Academic Honor Roll with McKinley earning the honor for a third straight year and Klaskin receiving his second straight appearance. Phillips was also named to the Landmark All-Conference First Team this fall while McKinley was a member of the Landmark Conference Fall All-Sportsmanship Team.

The women's volleyball program also participated in the postseason this fall, reaching the quarterfinals of the 2016 ECAC Division III Tournament to finish the season with a 19-15 record. Senior right side hitter Jaclyn Smith was named to the Fall Academic Honor Roll for the third straight year and this fall's Landmark All-Sportsmanship Team, and Smith was joined by juniors defensive specialist Jean Markovic and outside hitter Mary Zacher and sophomore middle blocker Erin Tiger. Markovic also earned her third Academic Honor Roll accolade after making the fall and spring teams last year while playing volleyball and softball at Moravian.

The field hockey squad had each of its three seniors – forward Erin Tiwold, midfielder Christina Duddy and forward Kyla Rodrigues make the Landmark Fall Academic Honor Roll for the third straight November.

The men's cross country squad finished fourth at the 2016 Landmark Conference Championships, and sophomore Aaron Hofmann earning a spot on the Fall Academic Honor Roll, and he is also a member of the Landmark Conference Fall All-Sportsmanship Team.
