TOWSON, Md. --- The Landmark Conference has named 43 student-athletes including four from Moravian College to the 2016-17 Winter All-Sportsmanship Team. The All-Sportsmanship Team includes one student-athlete from each institution for each sport and is selected by the players and coaches from their respective team.

The All-Sportsmanship Team recognizes student-athletes who epitomize the ideals of sportsmanship. The student-athletes selected demonstrate fair play, graciousness in victory and respectfulness in defeat. They are ambassadors for the team, both on and off the field, and galvanize their teammates toward their goals. These student-athletes exhibit respect for themselves, teammates, coaches, opponents, officials, spectators, and the greater campus community.

Of the 47 student-athletes on the All-Sportsmanship Team, eight were named All-Landmark. Three student-athletes are repeat selections from a year ago, and were described as leaders and difference-makers on their teams

The All-Sportsmanship Team was created by the Landmark Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) in 2013 as a way to highlight student-athletes who are making an impact. The Landmark previously awarded a Sportsmanship Cup before the All-Sportsmanship Team replaced the Cup for the 2013-14 academic year.

Men's Basketball

Senior guard Thomas Cicalese helped the men's basketball team to an eight-game improvement this winter as the squad tied the school record with a 19-9 record and won the program's first postseason game since 1990 with a win over No. 14 Susquehanna University in the Landmark Conference Semifinals. The Greyhounds also played in the ECAC Division III Tournament for the third time in school history. Cicalese saw action in eight games with two assists, two steals and two points for Moravian this winter, and he had 26 points, 12 rebounds, 13 assists and 12 steals in 41 career games. 

"Tommy is a great representative of our program," said Head Coach Justin Potts. "His work ethic and commitment to the team are great examples for our younger players to follow. He embodies our core values in every aspect and has a great respect for the game and our opponents."

Women's Basketball

Senior guard Morgan Calabrese was the starting point guard for the women's basketball team that finished with a 20-8 record, the program's 19th 20-win season. The Greyhounds also reached the Landmark Conference Semifinals and played in the ECAC Division III Tournament for the 15th time, winning a first round game before falling in the quarterfinals. Calabrese started all 28 games for the Hounds and averaged 9.2 points per game to go along with 112 rebounds, 101 assists, 31 steals and 18 three-pointers this winter. Calabrese completed her career with 810 points, 322 rebounds, 218 assists and 106 steals for the Greyhounds in 106 games.

"Morgan exemplifies the true meaning of sportsmanship, leader and committed student athlete," stated Head Coach Mary Beth Spirk. "She has been a stellar player for our team for four years. Beyond her talent on the court, as her numbers speak for themselves, Morgan is a team player. She has sacrificed personal achievements for team gains. The team always came first to Morgan. She fought hard on the court, but had respect for and from her opponents. Morgan was a complete player, on the court, off the court and in the classroom."

Track & Field

Sophomore sprinter/hurdler Woodrow Battle had an impact for the Greyhounds as they won their eighth straight Landmark Conference Indoor Championship on the men's side. He finished fourth in the 60-meter hurdles in 9.05 seconds to earn four points to help Moravian to its 37-point win.

"Woody is one of the nicest athletes we've had on the team in my time here, commented Head Coach Jesse Baumann. "He's always upbeat and in a jovial mood, and it's contagious. You can't help but be in a positive state of mind if you're around him. He's extremely respectful of his teammates and competitors, and is a great representative of our school and program."

Senior mutli-event athlete Rebecca Flitcroft helped the Greyhound women finish second at the Landmark Championships. She placed second in the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 9.85 seconds at the Landmark Championships to garner eight points for the Hounds, and she was tied for eighth in the pole vault at 2.29 meters (7-6).

"Rebecca is a great person to have on our team," noted Baumann. "She keeps the mood light, is extremely optimistic, and very is engaging with the people she interacts with. She always has a respectful and positive attitude and exemplifies how you want your athletes to conduct themselves."

Both Battle and Flitcroft were named to the Landmark Conference Winter All-Sportsmanship Team for a second straight year.
