35 Greyhounds Named to 2017 Landmark Conference Winter Academic Honor Roll

TOWSON, Md. --- The Landmark Conference has announced its winter 2016-17 Landmark Conference Winter Academic Honor Roll, which recognized 35 student-athletes from Moravian College. The honorees were selected from all eight Landmark Conference institutions with a total of 291 student-athletes.

The Landmark Academic Honor Roll recognizes all winter student-athletes of sophomore standing or older with a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher. The student-athletes must complete the winter season in good standing with their team. The Winter Academic Honor Roll begins the academic award season for the conference with the Senior Scholar-Athlete for the winter sports to be named later this week.

Of the 291 student-athletes recognized this fall, 145 are repeat honorees having been awarded in a previous year. A remarkable 59 seniors have been named to the Honor Roll all three years they have been eligible. 67 honorees were named to their respective all-conference teams this winter, while 11 were announced as Athletes of the Year. 18 selections were named to the Landmark Winter All-Sportsmanship team, who demonstrate fair play, graciousness in victory and respectfulness in defeat. They are ambassadors for the team, both on and off the field, and galvanize their teammates toward their goals.

Moravian had student-athletes from all four winter sports teams named to the Academic Honor Roll. Leading the Greyhounds with the most honorees was the women's indoor track and field team with 18 student-athletes followed by the men's indoor track and field team with nine selections while the women's basketball team had seven and the men's basketball team added one student-athlete.

Leading the women's indoor track and field team were seniors Meg Brockett, Jackie Finnegan, Rebecca Flitcroft, Larissa Strycharz, Lauren Suelke and Lauren White. Juniors Melissa Cheong, Casie Cronk, Maggie Heft, Kirsten Lebo, Carly Thorpe and Holly Wagner made the honor roll along with sophomores Sara DeFranco, Adriana Facchiano, Lian Grow, Alyssa Limbaugh, Abigail Strouse and Danielle Tomko. The women's team was the runner-up at the 2017 Landmark Conference Indoor Championships with Brockett, Cheong and Cronk making the All-Conference First Team. Earning spots on the All-Conference Second Team for the Hounds were Cheong, Cronk, Finnegan, Flitcroft and Thorpe.

On the men's indoor track list for the Blue and Grey were seniors Greg Cahill, Jordan Sweeney and Cory Taggert, junior Mike Kopach and sophomores Jon Anthony, Woodrow Battle, Tyler Bergsma, Aaron Hofmann and John Spirk. Moravian's men won their eighth straight Landmark Conference title with Cahill and Spirk earning spots on the All-Conference First Team and Cahill, Kopach, Spirk and Taggert garnering All-Conference Second Team honors.

The women's basketball team had both of its seniors Morgan Calabrese and Camille McPherson along with juniors Jen Cella, Kayla Csencsits and Trista Cunningham and sophomores Ariana Caiti and Caitlin Flanagan named to the Academic Honor Roll. McPherson was selected to the Landmark Conference All-Conference First Team for her play throughout the season. The Greyhounds were 20-8 on the year and made the ECAC Division III Championship Tournament Quarterfinals.

The lone men's basketball honoree was sophomore Nicholas Casazza. The men's basketball team tied the school record for victories with a 19-9 record, and the Greyhounds won the program's first postseason game since 1990 with a win in the Landmark Conference Semifinals before making Moravian's third trip to the ECAC Division III Championship Tournament.
