EASTON, Pa. --- Moravian College senior Meg Brockett and Camille McPherson were recognized as Moravian's CO-Outstanding Athlete as well as the Outstanding Athlete in their respective sports at the annual Lehigh Valley Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women annual awards luncheon at Lafayette College on Tuesday.
The LVAIAW is made up of seven schools, Cedar Crest College, DeSales University, Lafayette College, Lehigh University, Kutztown University of Pennsylvania, Moravian and Muhlenberg College. For more information on the LVAIAW, visit www.lvaiaw.org.
Brockett was recognized as the LVAIAW Outstanding Athlete for cross country after earning All-America honors last fall with a 35th place finish at the NCAA Division III National Championships. Brockett ran a total of six races in 2016 in under 22 minutes and a seventh at 22:05 including her first trip to the NCAA Championships. Brockett is a two-time member of the NCAA Division III All-Mideast Region after finishing second in the region this past fall and 28th in 2015. Brockett was named the Landmark Conference Runner of the Year and individual champion with a time of 21:10 at the conference meet, taking one minute and 42 seconds off of the previous meet record at 6K. Brockett ran a school and Landmark Conference record 21:06 at the Paul Short run. Brockett earned Landmark All-Conference honors in each of her four seasons with First Team honors in 2015 and 2016 after spots on the Second Team in 2013 and 2014. She is also a three-time member of the Landmark Conference Fall Academic Honor Roll and Brockett was also selected as the Landmark Conference Senior Scholar-Athlete for women's cross country.
"I'm very excited for Meg to be recognized for all the hard work she put into this year and her entire career," stated Head Coach Jesse Baumann. "She had one of the most impressive cross country seasons of any athlete I've worked with and earned Moravian's first women's cross country All-American honor since 2001. Unfortunately her track season ended early with a stress fracture in her heel, but it doesn't take away from her tremendous accomplishments in her career here."
McPherson was honor as the LVAIAW Outstanding Athlete for women's basketball after being named to the D3hoops.com All-Mid-Atlantic Region Second Team and the Women's DIII News Honorable Mention All-American. McPherson was also honored on the Landmark All-Conference First Team and the ECAC Division III Metro All-Star First Team as she led the Greyhounds in scoring at 22.9 points per game with her 642 points ranking as the second most in school history in a single season. McPherson also led the Hounds on the boards at 8.6 rebounds per game to go with a team high 59 three-pointers and eight double-doubles. She contributed 80 assists, 20 steals and 15 blocked shots, and McPherson shot 80.8 percent at the foul line (143-of-177), 47.5 percent from the floor (220-of-463) and 38.8 percent beyond the arc (59-of-152). This past winter, McPherson was also selected as the Lehigh Valley Small College Women's Basketball Pete Nevins Player of the Year while earning a spot on the LVSCB Team of the Year.
"Camille continues to garner awards for her stellar performance this past season," commented Head Women's Basketball Coach Mary Beth Spirk. "Winning the LVAIAW award for basketball is another huge accomplishment for Camille. There were many great performers in the Lehigh Valley on the hardwood this year, so to be recognized among these players is a special achievement. The LVAIAW Outstanding Senior Athlete award adds to her resume and is well deserved. These additional awards are direct reflection on all the hard work and effort that Camille has put in to make her one of the best in the Lehigh Valley and at Moravian."
