BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College men's and women's track & field teams are ready to host the 2017 Landmark Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday and Sunday, May 6-7 at Timothy Breidegam Track and Rocco Calvo Field.
Saturday's action begins at 9:30 a.m. with the men's 10,000-meter run and will continue through 5:00 p.m. Sunday starts at 9:00 a.m. with the men's javelin and concludes with the final awards ceremony at approximately 4:00 p.m. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for seniors while children under 10 and all Landmark Conference students, faculty and staff with ID are free. The Greyhounds enter the meet looking to defend their conference titles. The women's team has won all nine Landmark Conference Championships as the conference celebrates its 10th anniversary while the men's squad has won the last two titles and eight of the first nine in conference history. Head Coach Jesse Baumann is in his sixth season leading the Moravian programs and looks to have both team ready to challenge for the top spots again this weekend.
On the women's side, sophomore Anna Osman is the returning Landmark Conference Rookie of the Year, and she enters the meet with top time in the 400-meter hurdles. Junior Melissa Cheong is back to defend her conference titles in the 100-meter hurdles, which she enters in second, and long jump, where she has the top distance, while junior Casie Cronk looks to repeat in the high jump and enters tied with Cheong at the top height this spring. Junior Beth Ann Davies is the returning champion in the pole vault with the top height again this spring while junior Trista Cunningham is back to defend her title in the discus where she enters the meet in third.
Freshman Lily Cooper enters the championship with the top time in the 100-meter dash while Osman is second in the 400-meter dash. Senior Lauren White is ranked fifth in the 100-meter dash. Sophomore Amari Schooler ranks first in the conference in the 100-meter hurdles with senior Rebecca Flitcroft in fourth and Osman in fifth. Flitcroft is second to Osman in the 400-meter hurdles with senior Holly Wagner in fifth. White, Schooler, Cooper and sophomore Abigail Strouse have the top time in the 4x100-meter relay.
Freshman Carly Danoski has the top time in the 800-meter run this spring in the conference while freshman Katie Mayer is second in the 5,000-meter run. Senior Larissa Strycharz enters the meet fourth in the 10,000-meter run with freshman Marlee Hornbaker one spot back.
Senior Kiara Bright enters with the top distance in the triple jump with junior Carly Thorpe in fourth and senior Lauren Suelke in fifth. Cronk enters the meet with the fourth best distance in the long jump.
Senior Jackie Finnegan has the top distance in the hammer throw with junior Maggie Heft in fourth and Cunningham in fifth. Cunningham is also third in the shot put with junior Ciara Stewart in fifth while Finnegan is also second in the discus with sophomore Adriana Facchiano is fifth. Junior Mary Kate Duncan enters the meet second in the javelin while junior Nicole Capuano is fifth.
For the men, the Greyhounds return the reigning Rookie of the Year in sophomore John Spirk, who looks to defend his titles in the 110-meter high hurdles and 400-meter hurdles.
In the sprint races, freshman Billy DiLolle enters the meet with the second fastest time in the 100-meter dash while senior Austin Gardener is second in the 200-meter dash. Senior Cory Taggert has the second-best time in the 400-meter dash, and the trio along with junior Eric Morton head into the championships with the top time in the 4x100-meter relay. Morton is third in the 100 while Gardener is fourth, and DiLolle enters fifth in the 200.
Sophomore Peter Mileweski has the top time in the conference in the 3,000-meter steeplechase while freshman Greg Jaindl is second in the event. Junior Andrew Mitchell is fourth in the 800-meter run with sophomore Devon Harris a spot back in fifth. Jaindl enters the weekend fifth in the 1,500-meter run while freshman Gavin Kemery is fifth in the 10,000-meter run. The 4x400-meter relay squad of Spirk, Jaindl, Taggert and junior Mike Kopach enters the meet in second place.
In the field events, senior Kahron Walker has the top height in the high jump while sophomore Scott Goodwin enters with the top clearance in the pole vault. Senior Kyle Hagerty has the best distance in the long jump while sophomore Brian Stock is fifth in the event and freshman Roland Cash is fourth in the triple jump.
Freshman Ryan Harper enters the championships with the top throw in the shot put while sophomore Tyler Bergsma is second. Moravian has three of the top five entrants in the discus with sophomore Jon Anthony in first, senior Greg Cahill in second and Bergsma in fourth. Cahill is also third in the hammer throw and followed by sophomore Hunter Gibson and Bergsma while senior Michael Guarino is third in the javelin with junior Robert Condo in fourth.
