BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Brian Bergstol '07; Rosanna Azzolino Ettz '00; Jarrod Pence '03; Larry Rosati '42; Lynne Grzywacz Webb '99 and Mark Will-Weber make up the class of 2017 that will be inducted into the Moravian College Athletic Hall of Fame on Friday, November 3 in Johnston Hall. The 2001 women's cross country team will also be inducted that night.
Brian Bergstol, who graduated from Moravian in 2007, was a four-year member of the golf squad with one of the best careers in school history. Bergstol holds the program record with a 75.4 stroke average for his career over 67.5 rounds, and he has three of the top four seasons in school history with averages of 71.93 strokes in 2007, 74.58 strokes in 2006 and 76.61 strokes in 2005. Bergstol was the Commonwealth Conference Player of the Year in 2006 and 2007 by winning the conference individual title, and he helped the 2006 squad capture the Commonwealth Conference Championship. Bergstol was honored as a Ping Golf Coaches Association of America All-Middle Atlantic Region selection in each of his four seasons, and he was also selected as a Middle Atlantic States Collegiate Athletic Corporation Scholar-Athlete in 2007. A year after graduation, Bergstol qualified for the US Open at Torrey Pines in 2008, and he currently works as a teaching professional at Shawnee Inn and Resort in the Poconos.
Rosanna "Zan" Azzolino Ettz, a 2000 Moravian graduate, was a four-year letterwinner on the softball squad. She was a four-year starter at shortstop for the Greyhounds, playing on the program's first three NCAA Division III Tournament qualifying teams beginning in 1998. Ettz finished her career with a .349 average in 162 games as she collected 158 career hits in 452 at-bats to go along with 96 runs, 13 doubles, 11 triples, 58 RBIs, a .427 slugging percentage, 24 walks and a .364 on-base percentage. In the field, Ettz had 320 assists and 236 putouts, and she was the school record holder in games played and assists at the end of her career to go with a record of 141 consecutive at-bats without a strikeout, a mark that still stands today. Ettz was a three-time member of the Commonwealth Conference All-Star First Team, and she was also selected to the Middle Atlantic Conference Academic Honor Roll three times. Ettz made the NCAA Division III East Regional All-Tournament Team in 1999 and 2000.
Jarrod Pence, who graduated in 2003, was a standout on the football gridiron for four seasons. Pence played in 40 of a possible 41 games during his career as a defensive back and made 200 tackles with 117 solo stops to go along with four and a half tackles for loss, 55 passes defended, 13 interceptions with one returned for a touchdown, four forced fumble and two fumble recoveries, both returned for touchdowns. Pence led all of NCAA Division III with 31 passes defended in 2001, a total that included five interceptions. Pence became Moravian's first-ever American Football Coaches Association Division III All-American in 2002, and he would go on to play in the Aztec Bowl in 2002 with a Division III All-Star Team playing the Mexican All-Star Team. Pence was a two-time Middle Atlantic All-Conference First Team selection in 2001 and 2002, and he was also named to the ECAC All-Southeast Region First Team in 2002 and the Football Gazette All-South Region Second Team as a senior.
Larry Rosati, a 1942 Moravian graduate who passed away in 1997 at the age of 79, was a four-year letterwinner on the football team as a quarterback and defensive back. Rosati, who was also a member of the baseball squad for one season with the Greyhounds, returned to Moravian in 1946 to serve as Head Football Coach for five seasons as well as a physical education instructor. During his playing career, Rosati led the Greyhounds to a 19-13-1 record including a 12-4 mark in his last two seasons as the starting quarterback and captain. Rosati was a charter member and the original secretary/treasurer of the Lehigh Valley Chapter of the National Football Foundation and Hall of Fame established in 1961, and he was inducted into the Lehigh Valley Football Hall of Fame in 1992.
Lynne Grzywacz Webb, who graduated in 1999, was a standout on the hard-court with the women's tennis team and the hardwood with the women's basketball squad for four years. Webb still holds the school record for singles wins with the women's tennis program after posting a 69-6 record during her career. She also helped the squad to the Middle Atlantic Conference Championship in 1996, 1997 and 1998 including the program's first undefeated season with a 16-0 record in 1998. Webb won Moravian's first-ever MAC Singles Championship in 1997 as the second seed and repeated as the champion in 1998 as the top seed, and she won the MAC Doubles title in 1996 with Cluny Erickson Tierney '97. Webb was also selected as the Lehigh Valley Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women Outstanding Tennis Player in 1998 and 1999. On the basketball court, Webb saw action in 92 career games with 703 points and 404 rebounds while helping the Greyhounds reach the MAC Playoffs three times.
Mark Will-Weber served as Head Men's Cross Country Coach at Moravian from 1987 through 2005 and Head Women's Cross Country Coach from 1992 to 2005. He was also an assistant track & field coach during his tenure. Will-Weber led the women's cross country program to ten consecutive Middle Atlantic Conference Championships from 1993 through 2002, and the squad won three NCAA Division III Mideast Regional titles in 1993, 2000 and 2001 while running as a team for nine consecutive years at the NCAA Division III National Championships. Will-Weber had six of those nine national qualifying teams finish in the top 10 in the nation including third place finishes in 1993, 1995 and 2001. The women's program had 54 NCAA Division III All-Mideast Region competitors, three regional champions and 11 All-Americans under Will-Weber. In his tenure with the men's program, Will-Weber guided the Greyhounds to 46 wins in 70 dual meets and six straight MAC titles from 1993 through 1998. He also had 19 men earn NCAA Division III All-Mideast Region honors and four go on to compete at the NCAA Division III National Championships. Will-Weber was selected as the MAC Coach of the Year three times, and seven of his former runners have been inducted into the Moravian Hall of Fame.
The 2001 Women's Cross Country Team coached by Mark Will-Weber captured the program's ninth straight Middle Atlantic Conference Championship, won the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional title for a second straight year and finished third at the NCAA Division III National Championships. The squad was led by seniors Heidi Wolfsberger Peoples, Emily Shertzer and Kim Jaick Soden, who all earned All-America honors with People finishing second, Shertzer placing 27th and Soden finishing 32nd. Peoples and Shertzer have both been inducted into the Moravian Hall of Fame with Peoples inducted in 2012 and Shertzer in 2013.
