Nine Greyhounds Selected USTFCCCA All-Mideast Region

Nine Greyhounds named USTFCCCA All-Mideast Region honorees.

NEW ORLEANS, La. --- The Moravian College men's and women's track & field teams have had nine student-athletes named as United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Region honorees.

The USTFCCCA is in its third year named All-Region selections for indoor and outdoor track & field at the NCAA Division III level after having All-Region honors in cross country for a number of years. For a student-athlete to earn All-Region honors, an athlete must be ranked in the top-5 of an individual event in the region according to the final Track & Field Results Reporting System data or be part of a top-3 relay team. Moravian is part of the Mideast Region.

"We've been fortunate to have some good teams in recent years and a big reason for that is we've been balanced across all event groups," commented Head Coach Jesse Baumann. "This year was no different as you can see we were successful across all event areas. This is a very tough region to earn All-Region out of, in some instances everyone on the Mideast All-Region team is going to NCAAs, so clearly earning that honor means you're a talented athlete at the highest level of Division III."

The Greyhound men had six honorees with junior Scott Goodwin in the pole vault, freshman Zion Howard in the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes, junior John Spirk in 110-meter high hurdles and 400-meter hurdles, senior Robert Condo in the javelin, senior Andrew Mitchell in the 800-meter run and sophomore Greg Jaindl in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.

Howard has the fastest times in the Mideast region in both his races at 10.67 seconds in the 100-meter dash and 21.52 seconds in the 200-meter dash. Goodwin had a season-best height of 4.81 meters (15-9.25) in the pole vault to lead the region while Condo has a long throw od 60.50 meters (198-6) in the javelin. Mitchell had a season-best time of 1:52.95 in the 800-meter run while Jaindl's top time in the steeplechase is a school record of 9:13.09. Spirk posted season-best times 14.76 seconds in the 110-meter high hurdles and 54.61 seconds in the 400-meter hurdles.

Condo, Jaindl and Howard are all set to compete at the 2018 NCAA Division III Outdoor National Championships being hosted by the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse from May 24-26.

The Moravian women's team had three student-athletes named to All-Region with senior Trista Cunningham in the discus and the hammer throw, senior Mary Kate Duncan in the javelin and sophomore Carly Danoski in the 800-meter run. Cunningham had season-best marks of 41.37 meters (135-9) in the discus and 44.95 meters (147-6) in the hammer throw. Duncan, the defending national champion in the javelin, has the top throw in the region of 45.30 meters (148-7) while Danoski set a school record and has the fastest time in the region at 2:10.72 in the 800-meter run.

uncan and Danoski are in the field to compete at the NCAA Division III National Championships later this week.
