Top 10 Stories of 2017-18 - #7 Bertucci, Duncan & Zambelli Named Google Cloud Academic All-Americans

No. 7 on the Top 10 Stories of 2017-18 is Lauren Bertucci '18, Mary Kate Duncan '18 and Nick Zambelli '19 being named Academic All-Americans.

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Moravian College is continuing its look back at its 2017-18 athletic campaign. The next story in the second list of the summer as part of the Top 10 Stories from the past year selected by the athletic administration is our No. 7 story – seniors Lauren Bertucci and Mary Kate Duncan and junior Nick Zambelli being named Google Cloud Academic All-Americans® selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

To be eligible for Google Cloud Academic All-America® honors, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.30 grade-point average, be a sophomore, junior or senior and be a starter or significant reserve. The trio gives Moravian a total of 50 Academic All-Americans including 37 since 2000.

Bertucci, who earned a spot on the Google Cloud Academic All-America Second Team, was honored as the 2017 Landmark Conference Defensive Player of the Year and named to the United Soccer Coaches All-Mid-Atlantic Region Second Team after helping the Greyhounds to a 9-6-1 record and just six goals allowed last fall. Bertucci was also selected to the Landmark All-Conference Team for the fourth straight season and her second consecutive spot on the First Team after being on the Second Team as a freshman and sophomore, and she was named Moravian's Blue & Grey Female Senior Scholar-Athlete.

Duncan, who was selected to the Google Cloud Academic All-America First Team in 2018 after being on the Second Team as a junior, earned her third All-American honor at the 2018 NCAA Division III Championships in May 2018 with a third place finish in the javelin. She was the National Champion in the event in 2017 and finished fourth in 2016 while competing at the NCAA meet all four years of her career. Duncan, who was selected as Moravian's 2018 Co-Senior Female Athlete of the Year, won the 2018 Landmark Conference Champion in the event after being the Landmark Conference runner-up in 2016 and 2017. She was a two-time ECAC Division III Champion, and Duncan earned her third United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Mideast Region honor this season.

Zambelli, who garnered a spot on the Google Cloud Academic All-America First Team, recorded 70 tackles last season, and his total included 44 solo stops, one tackle for loss and one sack as he was selected to the Centennial All-Conference Second Team. Zambelli also recorded six passes defended including three interceptions, two fumble recoveries and a forced fumble. He was also honored as the 2017-18 Centennial Conference Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year while being named the Centennial Conference Football Scholar-Athlete of the Year and earning a spot on the All-Centennial Conference squad for being named both All-Conference and to the Centennial Conference Fall Academic Honor Roll.
