Top 10 Stories of 2017-18 - #5 Men's & Women's Track & Field Teams Sweep Landmark Conference Titles

No. 5 on the Top 10 Stories of 2017-18 is the men's and women's track & field teams sweeping the Landmark Conference Indoor and Outdoor Championships.

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Moravian College is continuing its look back at its 2017-18 athletic campaign. The next story in the second list of the summer as part of the Top 10 Stories from the past year selected by the athletic administration is our No. 5 story – the men's and women's track & field teams sweeping both the Landmark Conference Indoor and Outdoor Championships for the eighth time in the 11-year history of the conference.

The teams, led by Director of Cross Country and Track & Field Jesse Baumann, who along with his assistants earn the Landmark Conference Coaching Staff of the Year both indoors and outdoors for men and women, have captured a total of 41 out of a possible 44 Landmark Conference Championships.

The men won their ninth straight indoor title and tenth overall on February 24 with a 61.5 point edge over Elizabethtown College. The squad had seven individual event winners and two relay champions in the meet. Junior John Spirk was named the Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Year. The men then captured their fourth straight and tenth overall outdoor title on May 6 by just 23.5 points over host Elizabethtown. The Greyhounds had eight individual event champions including freshman Zion Howard being named the Male Outdoor Rookie of the Year after winning the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes. The women returned to the top of the podium at the indoor championships with the program's tenth overall title after a 38-point win over Elizabethtown. The women then won their 11th consecutive outdoor title by finishing with a 105-point edge over the Blue Jays. The Greyhounds had nine individual event winners and one relay champion outdoors led by junior Anna Osman, who won the 400-meter dash and 400-meter hurdles and was named the Female Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year, and senior Trista Cunningham, who captured the shot put and discus titles and was honored as the Female Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year.
