St. Luke's & Moravian Field Comprehensive Sports Medicine Team; John Ostrowski Named Coordinator

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- St. Luke's University Health Network and Moravian College are excited to announce the creation of a comprehensive sports medicine team effective July 1, 2018. St. Luke's is the region's largest sports medicine provider, covering more than 100,000 athletes in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

St. Luke's and Moravian have selected John Ostrowski, MS, LAT, ATC to serve as Coordinator of Sports Medicine and Head Athletic Trainer for Moravian College's NCAA Division III Athletics Program. Ostrowski succeeds Bob Ward who retired from Moravian College after serving the Greyhounds Athletic Program for 32 years. Ostrowski will oversee a sports medicine staff that will provide services through a fully integrated medical model.

The team will include board-certified athletic trainers and doctoral assistant athletic trainers, as well as a rehabilitation coordinator and a certified strength coach. Orthopedic surgeon Dr. Gregory Carolan and primary care sports medicine physician Dr. Maheep Vikram of St. Luke's Orthopedic Care will serve as the team physicians for Moravian College.

"This new model allows us to further enhance the services and programs we provide to the students, faculty and staff of Moravian College" continued Hauth. St. Luke's and Moravian have assembled an outstanding team of sports medicine experts that Hauth believes will set a new standard for collegiate sports medicine in the region.

About the Coordinator and Head Athletic Trainer:

John Ostrowski earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training from the University of Michigan and a Master of Science degree in Kinesiology and Health Promotion with a Specialization in Athletic Training from the University of Kentucky. Prior to his appointment at Moravian College, Ostrowski served as an Assistant Program Manager and Athletic Trainer for St. Luke's Sports Medicine in Bethlehem. His previous experience includes employment as a Clinical Athletic Trainer for McKay Dee Hospital in Ogden, Utah; Head Athletic Trainer for Curry College in Milton, Massachusetts; and Assistant Athletic Trainer for The College of Holy Cross in Worcester. In addition, Ostrowski spent two years working as an athletic trainer for the University of Kentucky's NCAA Division I Athletics Program. Ostrowski brings more than 15 years of experience as a Board Certified Athletic Trainer to Moravian College.

Ostrowski has also served as a Clinical Preceptor for several CAATE Accredited Athletic Training Programs. He is a nationally certified athletic trainer (ATC) and licensed as an athletic trainer by the Pennsylvania State Board of Medicine. Ostrowski holds certifications in Mental Health First Aid, CPR and AED. He is an instructor of CPR/AED and First Aid for the American Heart Association and the Emergency Care and Sport Safety Institute. He has published and presented on both the regional and national level.

Other team members include:

Sarah Coelho, MS, LAT, ATC, CSCS earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training from Concord University and a Master of Science degree in Athletic Training – Advanced Clinical Practice from East Stroudsburg University. Prior to her appointment to the Moravian College staff, Coelho served as the Head Athletic Trainer at Penn State - Brandywine for Novacare Rehabilitation. Her previous experience includes employment as an Assistant Athletic Trainer at Williams College, Head Athletic Trainer at William R. Boone High School (Orange County, Fla.), Athletic Trainer for Select Physical Therapy and Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer at Pocono Mountain West High School. Coelho completed a rotation at the United States Training Center and also served as a member of the Medical Services Team for the XXI Central American and Caribbean Games in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico. Coelho has served as a Clinical Preceptor for several CAATE Accredited Athletic Training Programs. She is a nationally certified athletic trainer and licensed as an athletic trainer by the Pennsylvania State Board of Medicine. Coelho also holds certification as a Strength and Conditioning Specialist.

Kelcey Holcomb, MHA, LAT, ATC is an Athletic Trainer with St. Luke's University Health Network, working at Moravian College. Originally from Charlotte, North Carolina, Holcomb completed her Master degree in Health Administration at Moravian College and her Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training at Western Carolina University. Holcomb has been a member of the Moravian College Sports Medicine Team for two years. She obtained her National Athletic Trainer's Association Board of Certification in 2016 and is licensed to practice as an athletic trainer in the state of Pennsylvania, by the State Board of Medicine. Her research interests are mental health and preventative methods in movement screenings.

Megan Kurzec, MHS, LAT, ATC is an Athletic Trainer with St. Luke's University Health Network. A native of Greensboro, North Carolina, Kurzec completed her Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training at Western Carolina University and her Master of Health Science degree with a concentration in Education from WCU in 2016. Kurzec has spent the last two years at Moravian College as an Assistant Athletic Trainer. Prior to joining Moravian College, Kurzec was an Athletic Trainer at Dieruff High School in Allentown and also worked as a Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer at the College of Charleston in Charleston, SC.

Ashley Gray, MS, LAT, ATC completed her Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training at West Chester University. She earned her Master of Science degree in Kinesiology from West Chester in 2015. Gray will serve as a staff athletic trainer for Moravian College while pursuing her Doctorate of Athletic Training degree at Moravian. Prior to her appointment to Moravian College, Gray served as an Athletic Trainer for Goldey-Beacom College in Wilmington, Delaware.

Elizabeth Ballard, DPT, LAT, ATC is a Physical Therapist and Athletic Trainer for St. Luke's University Health Network. She also serves as an adjunct assistant professor in the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences & the Department of Biology at Moravian College. Ballard holds a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from the Murphy Deming College of Health Sciences at Mary Baldwin University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training from Western Carolina University. She is currently completing her Orthopedic Residency in Physical Therapy through St. Luke's. Ballard will serve as the Rehabilitation Coordinator for Moravian College. A manual therapist, Dr. Ballard's primary area of research and scholarship is Neurodynamics. She has 20 peer-reviewed publications and presentations to her credit.

Thomas Long earned his Bachelor's Degree in Exercise Science from Temple University in 2015. After graduating, Long served as an Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach for Football at Villanova University. While at Villanova, he also was responsible for five other NCAA Division I Teams: Volleyball, Field Hockey, Women's Lacrosse, Track and Field Throwers, and Tennis. Long implemented various training and conditioning programs while providing nutritional guidance. In 2016, he was named the Director of Athletic Performance and Fitness Center Director at Moravian College. At Moravian, he is responsible for the development of programs for all the College's NCAA Division III teams. Long holds certifications from the National Strength and Conditioning Association as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist and is also certified CPR/First-Aid/AED.
