Thomas Long is beginning his 7 th year as the Director of Athletic Performance here at Moravian
University. Coach Long is a graduate of Temple University with a degree in Exercise Science. He
also holds certifications CSCS, USAW, and TPI Level 1 & 2.

He came to Moravian from Villanova University where he was as a Sports Performance Coach
for various Teams. Long was an Assistant Strength Coach for the football team, where he was
tasked with developing training programs for the incoming freshman and returning
sophomores; and for the GPS / Polar HR data collection. Long was also responsible for training
and devolving Villanova’s Women’s Lacrosse, Tennis, Volleyball, Track/Field Throwers, and Field
Hockey teams.

Coach Long was initially hired by Moravian as the Director of Sports Performance and the
Director of the Recreation Facility. Over the years, the programs grew and the need for
additional personnel became apparent. The two programs were separated and Long became
the Director of Athletic Performance.

Director Long is continually looking for new and advanced programs to enhance the student
athletes. In 2023, his staff was involved in a clinical case study with the Department of
Rehabilitation Sciences here at Moravian University. This case study involved the Women’s
Soccer team training with water filled barrels and the strength gained through using these
training implements. The case study is published abstract and was presented in Boston in 2024
at the American Physical Therapy Association Combined Sections Meeting by Moravian
Professor Dr. Colin Tomes. The title of the presentation was Observations of Undulating
Training with a Novel Water-Filled Training Implement and Barbell.

Long has given numerous talks at sports performance seminars. In 2023, he was one of the
guest speakers at The Nike Football Clinic in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania; along with Nick Saban
(Head Football Coach at the University of Alabama) and Jeff Monken (Head Coach for the West
Point Army football team. Long’s presentation covered Sports Performance for the College
Football player.

During his tenure at Moravian, Director Long has coached 22 Landmark Championship Teams,
14 All-Americans, over 300 1 st Team Landmark Conference selections, and 30 Landmark
Conference Players of the Year and 18 Landmark Conference Rookies of the Year.
