21 Greyhounds Set to Compete at ECAC Division III Track & Field Championships

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Moravian College has qualified 21 student-athletes, 13 males and eight females, to compete at the 2013 Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Springfield College in Springfield, Massachusetts on Thursday and Friday, May 16th and 17th. Both of the Greyhounds squads won their sixth consecutive Landmark Conference Championships on April 28th under the direction of second-year head coach Jesse Baumann.

On the women's side, senior Micah Leonard will be competing in two individual events. Leonard has the top qualifying distance in the triple jump with a Moravian and Landmark Conference record of 12.34 meters (40 feet, six inches), and she qualified in the long jump with a leap of 5.69 meters (18 feet, eight inches).

In the field events, sophomore Hailey Kester will compete in the pole vault with a height of 3.71 meters (12 feet, two inches) while sophomore Dana Fineman enters the ECAC meet at a height of 3.35 meters (ten feet, 11 ¾ inches).

In the track events, sophomore Brielle Sutter will be taking part in the 200 meter dash after posting a time of 26.14 earlier this year and the 400 meter dash with a school and Landmark Conference record time of 57.06. Classmate Morgan Redmond qualified for the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 15.75 seconds, the 400 meter hurdles with a school record time of 1:05.29 and the 200-meter dash in 26.41 seconds. Freshman Corinne Glass will be competing in the 100-meter dash with a qualifying time of 12.68 seconds and the 200-meter dash with a mark of 25.81 seconds while sophomore Claire DelCasale is running in the 10,000 meters with a qualifying mark of 39:39.00.

The women's team will also be sending one relay team to the ECAC meet. Glass, Sutter, Redmond and freshman Christelle Reglas will run the 4x100-meter relay with a qualifying time of 49.16 seconds.

On the men's side, junior Kristopher Joint and senior Travis King will lead the Greyhounds in the jumping events. Joint qualified for the triple jump with a school and Landmark Conference record distance of 14.76 meters (48 feet, 5 ¼ inches) and the long jump with a leap of 7.05 meters (23 feet, 1 ¾ inches) while King will compete in the triple jump with a qualifying distance of 14.56 meters (47 feet, 9 ¼ inches). Freshman Albert Myers is also entered in the long jump with a qualifying mark of 6.74 meters (22 feet, 1 ½ inches).

The Greyhounds have three other field competitors with junior Timothy Lorah and senior Tyler Potterton in the javelin and freshman Ryan Karnopp in the pole vault. Lorah has a qualifying throw of 65.68 meters (215 feet, six inches) while Potterton is entered at 59.25 meters (194 feet, four inches). Karnopp's top height of the season is 4.50 meters (14 feet, nine inches).

In the track events, senior Donald Noble is qualified for the 5,000-meter run with a time of 14:46.65 and the 1,500-meter run at 3:59.19 while sophomore Dillon Farrell is entered in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 14:54.81. Senior Jacob Donchez will run the 10,000 meters with a qualifying time of 32:10.69 while sophomore Alec Duncan is entered in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:37.45.

Myers is also scheduled to compete in the 100-meter dash with a qualifying time of 11.04 seconds while junior David Cariello is entered in the 110-meter high hurdles in a time of 15.29 seconds.

Moravian is also sending its 4x100-meter relay squad of Myers, King, senior Justin Taylor and sophomore Travis Dorsa that has a qualifying time of 43.01 seconds.

The ECAC meet is the final qualifying event for the 2013 NCAA Division III National Championships hosted by the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse in La Crosse, Wisconsin on May 23rd-25th. 

Beginning last year, the top 20 men and top 22 women in each event plus the top 16 relay teams will enter the meet. Entering the ECAC Championships, the Greyhounds have five student-athletes currently high enough to compete next week – Kester in the pole vault, Lorah in the javelin, Leonard in the long jump and triple jump and both King and Joint in the triple jump.  The rest of Moravian's competitors at the ECAC meet will be looking to improve their marks enough to make the national meet.
