Dave Carty Named Head Men's Lacrosse Coach

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Moravian College has selected Dave Carty to be the head coach of the men's lacrosse program as the school works towards reinstituting the program as a varsity sport in 2016.

"Dave Carty brings a wealth of experience to kick start our men's lacrosse program, said Moravian Director of Athletics Scot Dapp. "His expertise and enthusiasm made him the perfect person to take over this position and we are excited to have him join the Hound family."

Carty will have a year of recruiting, and he will coach Moravian's club men's lacrosse team in 2015 as the program prepares to transition back to varsity status in 2016. The Greyhounds will eventually return to action as a member of the Landmark Conference.

"Moravian has a great academic reputation and athletics plays a huge role in the Moravian experience," stated Carty. "They also compete in the Landmark Conference and it's a very strong lacrosse conference."

Carty is excited about bringing the Greyhounds' program back. "The opportunity to build the program from the ground up and establish a great culture of winning and academic success is exciting," he said. "We're going to look at the club team initially and then recruit a strong class for the fall of 2015. I have strong roots in New Jersey and New York and I'm going to look to bring in 20 to 25 recruits.

"We're going to look to really bring the lacrosse alumni back in strength," Carty continued. "It always helps to have the support of the alumni and bringing them back could really enhance the current players experience at Moravian."

Carty has a career coaching record of 100-102 in 13 years as a collegiate head coach, and he has spent the last 18 years as a lacrosse coach on all three levels of the NCAA. He heads to Moravian after a year as a defensive assistant at NCAA Division I Lafayette College with the responsibility for coaching face-offs and goalies in 2014. Carty was the head coach at NCAA Division II Pace University for nine years. In 2013, the Pace squad received an Academic Award from the Northeast 10 Conference.

Prior to taking over the position at Pace in August 2004, Carty was an assistant coach at West Point Prep for one year. He was the head coach at Centenary College for two years with a 19-11 record and two ECAC Tournament berths. Carty began his coaching career at FDU-Florham in 1996 as an assistant coach before taking over the head position in 2000. In two seasons leading the Devils, Carty posted a 25-8 record that including a pair of ECAC Tournament berths and the ECAC Metro title in 2001.

During his career, Carty has served as a member of the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association's All-American and Ranking committees, the NCAA Division II Regional Selection committee and served as an NCAA site representative during the NCAA Tournament.
