BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Moravian College hosted its Annual Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Kickoff event in Johnston Hall Tuesday evening to begin the 2014-15 academic year and honor all of its student-athletes.

The night began with president Bryon L. Grigsby '90 addressing the student-athletes. During his undergraduate career at Moravian, Grigsby was a member of the men's soccer team for two seasons and is still ranked second in the program's record book for shutouts in a season with seven in 1987.

Director of the Career Center Amy Saul and Assistant Director of Intercultural Advancement Sridevi Rao also spoke to the student-athletes.

Director of Athletics Scot Dapp then introduced the athletic department staff and also announced the spring athletic postseason award winners from 2014. Dr. Bob Brill of the psychology department and Moravian's Faculty Athletic Representative honored the spring academic award winners.

Junior men's soccer player Brian Boland, President of SAAC, introduced his fellow SAAC offices and spoke on SAAC and the projects the group does each year.

Before the evening ended, Moravian's mascots Amos and Amy took part in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. The duo called out Benny the Blackhawk from Brooke Point High School in Stafford, Virginia, Head of Moravian's Campus Safety Department George Boksan, the Peep Mascot from Just Born Candy, Donny Boyer from the Moravian food service department and the Muhlenberg College Mule. Amos offered to use the Matte Award Cup for the challenge with the Mules.

At the end of the evening, all freshmen and transfer student-athletes received a t-shirt from SAAC, and all of Moravian's student-athletes received their planners for the year. The coaching staff provided Philadelphia soft pretzels and candy to finish off the event, and there were raffle prizes for the student-athletes.
