2014 Landmark Conference Fall Academic Honor Roll

TOWSON, Md. --- The Landmark Conference has announced its fall 2014 Landmark Conference Fall Academic Honor Roll which recognized 37 student-athletes from Moravian College. The honorees were selected from all nine Landmark Conference institutions with a total of 371 athletes.

The Landmark Academic Honor Roll recognizes all fall student-athletes of sophomore standing or older with a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher. The student-athletes must complete the fall season in good standing with their team.  The Fall Academic Honor Roll begins the academic award season for the conference with the Senior Scholar-Athlete for the fall sports to be named in December.

Moravian had student-athletes from all six of its fall teams that compete in the conference with the field hockey team leading the way with 11 honorees followed by the women's soccer team with nine. The women's cross country team added seven while women's volleyball had five selections. Men's soccer had three student-athletes named to the Landmark Conference Academic Honor Roll while the men's cross country team had a pair of selections.

The field hockey squad posted a 8-10 mark this fall and had six seniors – midfielders Catherine Duffin and Valerie Male and forwards Cayley Wise and Taylor Holly along with defenders Emily Marley and Bryn Tafuri. Two juniors, forward Tiffany Gumina and midfielder Rebecca Hamel earned spots while three sophomores joined them on the Academic Honor Roll - forwards Erin Tiwold and Kyla Rodrigues and midfielder Christina Duddy. Duffin was named the Landmark All-Conference Second Team earlier this month.

The women's soccer team, posting a 7-10-1 record, had nine members of the squad make the Academic Honor Roll including senior captains forward Kirsten Schall and defender Kaylan Bruzzone. Schall also earned Landmark Offensive Player of the Year honors and a spot on the Landmark All-Conference First Team after tying the school record with 16 goals to go with one assist to lead Moravian with 33 points. The list also includes four juniors from the women's soccer team - midfielder Taylor Blake, defenders Catherine Lamplugh and Melissa Pavia, and goalie Jacqueline Zalis. Sophomores forward Melissa Walko, midfielder Hannah LaFronz and defender Kylie Desjadon also earned a place on the Fall Academic Honor Roll.

The women's volleyball program participated in the Landmark Conference Tournament for the eighth straight year and finished the season at 15-19. Juniors defensive specialist Andrea Giardina, outside hitter Lauren Hostetler and setter Megan Szkolnicki were all named to the the Fall Academic Honor Roll for the second straight time adding junior middle blocker Victoria Bobyak and sophomore opposite hitter Jaclyn Smith.

The women's cross country team captured third at the Landmark Conference Championship and finished eighth at the 2014 NCAA Division III Mideast Regional, and the squad had four seniors named to the Fall Academic Honor Roll. Emily Lambright earned First Team All-Conference accolades for the second year in a row with a fourth place finish Championships and All-Region honors with a 29th place finish at Dickinson. Claire Del Casale, Jessie Goldberg and Devon Bedell join Lambright. It is the third straight year that Lambright, Del Casale and Goldberg are on the Fall Academic Honor Roll. Sophomores Megan Brockett, Sarah Hughes and Larissa Strycharz joined them on this fall.

The men's soccer team posted a 7-9-2 mark this fall and had juniors forward Shane Harder and midfielder Brett Harder named to the Fall Academic Honor Roll for a second consecutive year. Sophomore midfielder Robert McKinley joins them this fall.

The men's cross country squad finished fourth at the 2014 Landmark Conference Championships with senior Dillon Farrell placing second earning All-Conference First Team honors, and he earned All-Region honors for a sixth place finish at the Mideast Regional this past Saturday. Farrell will be competing at the 2014 NCAA Division III National Championships hosted by Wilmington College in Mason, Ohio on November 22. Junior Jeremy Rigotti joins Farrell on the Fall Academic Honor Roll for the second consecutive year.
