Four Greyhounds Named to Landmark Winter All-Sportsmanship Team

TOWSON, Md. --- Four Moravian College student-athletes were selected to the 2015 Landmark Conference Winter All-Sportsmanship Team. Senior forwards Alexis Wright and Garrett Kashmer represent women's and men's basketball while seniors Mike Hoffmann and Brielle Sutter were selected for the men's and women's indoor track and field teams.

The All-Sportsmanship Team recognizes student-athletes who epitomize the ideals of sportsmanship. The student-athletes selected demonstrate fair play, graciousness in victory and respectfulness in defeat. They are ambassadors for the team, both on and off the field, and galvanize their teammates toward their goals. These student-athletes exhibit respect for themselves, teammates, coaches, opponents, officials, spectators, and the greater campus community.

Sutter, who is in her final campaign with the Greyhounds helped the squad earn its eight straight Landmark Conference Indoor title by taking gold in the 200-meter dash with an ECAC qualifying time of 26.28 seconds. Sutter was also part of the 4x200-meter relay team that won with an ECAC qualifying time of 1:45.44, the fourth-best time in school history. Sutter was part of the win by the 4x400-meter relay in 4:11.57 earning her First Team All-Conference accolades in all three events. At ECAC Indoor Championships, the 4x200 team finished third with a new Landmark and Moravian record time, and Sutter was 16th in the 200-meter dash in a career-best time of 25.99 seconds, tied for the sixth-best mark in school history.

"Brielle is very motivated and driven, while also being extremely knowledgeable and respectful of her competition," commented Head Coach Jesse Baumann. "She's had a lot of success in her four years here, but she's always conducted herself with class and has been gracious both in victory and defeat.  She's been a great asset for our program both as an athlete, and as an example of how we want our athletes to represent the college and our program."

Hoffmann is a senior hurddler on the men's track team. This winter he posted 7.89 seconds in the 60M, 28.16 seconds in the 200M, 1:02.10 400M, 1:26.86 in the 500M.

"Mike is extremely enthusiastic about our team, and the sport," stated Baumann. "On his own, he develops a weekly mock scoring spreadsheet for the conference meet.  He's very engaged, always has a positive attitude, and is a great asset to our program.  As a staff, we've always said he'd make a great coach due to his passion for the sport and the teams he's affiliated with along with his maturity and leadership skills."

Kashmer started in 23 of 25 games his senior year as he took on the responsibilities as co-captain this year. In his final season, he contributed 96 points, 82 rebounds, 38 assists, 23 blocks and four steals this season.

"Garrett is very deserving of this award," commented Head Coach Jim Walker. "His actions on and off the court exhibit the best qualities of sportsmanship; fair play and repect for temmates, coaches, opponents and officials. His positive energy and leadership throughout the season makes him the best choice for this honor."

Wright finished up her senior season second in school history with 948 rebounds, second in blocked shots with 204 and eighth in scoring 1,341 points. Wright also completed the season with a school record average of 12.1 rebounds per game, and her career rebounding average of 10.2 boards per contest is also a school record. Wright was named the Landmark Conference Defensive Player of the Year while earning All-Conference First Team honors for the second time in 2015.

"Alexis embodies exactly what sportsmanship means," said Head Coach Mary Beth Spirk. "Fair play, self-control, respect for opponents and authority. Alexis is the perfect example of all of those definitions. She consistently gets doubled and tripled team, but you never saw her get angry, never saw her try to retaliate in an unsportsmanlike way. Alexis respects her opponents, her teammates and her coaches. She is as steady emotionally as any player I have ever coached, that is what makes her an obvious choice for this team."
