Moravian SAAC Special Olympics Event Wins NCAA DIII May Spotlight Poll

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. --- Moravian College's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee's Special Olympics story Moravian SAAC Hosts Annual Special Olympics Basketball Tournament finished first in the May voting in the NCAA Division III Special Olympics Spotlight Poll, earning $500 from the NCAA to put towards its next Special Olympics event.

Moravian's SAAC hosted its 4th Annual Special Olympics Basketball Tournament in Timothy Breidegam Fieldhouse on Saturday, March 28 with 40 participants from the Lehigh Country Special Olympics and Bethlehem City Special Olympics and over 80 Moravian student-athletes.

"On behalf of the entire Moravian College Student Athlete Advisory Committee, we are very excited to have won the Spotlight Poll for May and want to thank the NCAA for the $500 award," commented SAAC Advisor and Head Women's Volleyball Coach Shelley Bauder. "We also would like to thank the Moravian College community, our local Special Olympics community, and everyone else who took the time to vote for us. We look forward to using the money to provide an unforgettable experience for all who will be involved in our annual Special Olympics Basketball Tournament next spring."

Moravian finished with 3,523 votes (50 percent of the 7,005 total votes) to edge Hope College's women's basketball story by 231 votes.

The NCAA Division III Special Olympics Spotlight Poll is a story-telling initiative located on ncaa.org/D3SpecialOlympics. It features three new stories per month – each highlighting a Division III and Special Olympics joint activity or event.
