29 Greyhounds Named to Landmark Fall Academic Honor Roll

TOWSON, Md. --- The Landmark Conference has announced its fall 2015 Landmark Conference Fall Academic Honor Roll which recognized 30 student-athletes from Moravian College. The honorees were selected from all nine Landmark Conference institutions with a total of 382 athletes.

The Landmark Academic Honor Roll recognizes all fall student-athletes of sophomore standing or older with a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher. The student-athletes must complete the fall season in good standing with their team. The Fall Academic Honor Roll begins the academic award season for the conference with the Senior Scholar-Athlete for the fall sports to be named in December. Moravian had student-athletes from all six fall sports teams named to the Academic Honor Roll. Leading the way for the fall teams was the women's soccer squad with eight selections, followed by the field hockey team with six honorees, the women's cross country team had five, men's soccer and women's volleyball each had four and men's cross country added three selections.

The women's soccer team posted a 4-10-3 record this season and made the Landmark Conference Tournament as the fourth seed. Of the eight players to make the squad, there were four seniors including captain midfielder Catherine Lamplugh, captain defender Melissa Pavia, forward Taylor Blake, defender Marlene Lopes, and goalkeeper Jacqueline Zalis. For LamplughPavia, Blake, and Zalis this is their third fall making the Fall Academic Honor Roll. The other three players from the team were junior forward Hannah LaFronz, sophomore goalie Jessica Lawton and sophomore defender Lauren Bertucci. Bertucci also made the Landmark Conference All-Conference Second Team for her performance during the 2015 season.

The field hockey team had six players named to the Honor Roll. The list includes two seniors, three juniors and one sophomore. The seniors were captain midfielder Rebecca Hamel, who has made the list for the third year and midfielder Ely Vazquez while the juniors are made up of midfielder Kyla Rodrigues, forward Erin Tiwold and midfielder Christina Duddy. The lone sophomore was defender Katie Morrison.

The women's cross country team had three juniors and two sophomores make this year's Honor Roll. Juniors Meg Brockett and Sarah Hughes were named not only to the Honor Roll but also made the DIII Mid-East All-Region team earlier in the week. Junior Larissa Strycharz and sophomores Kristen Lebo and Larkin Brown also made the list. Lebo was also named to the Landmark Conference All-Sportsmanship Team this fall.

The men's soccer team finished the season with a record of 7-9-2. The team had two seniors, one junior and one sophomore named to the list. The two seniors were brothers midfielder Brett Harder and forward Shane Harder, who both made the Fall Academic Honor Roll for the third straight year, while the junior was midfielder Robert McKinley and the sophomore was defender Corey Klaskin.

The volleyball team finished their season with a record of 18-15. Seniors setter Megan Szkolnicki and defensive specialist Andrea Giardina made the Fall Academic Honor Roll for the third straight season while junior captain opposite side hitter Jaclyn Smith and sophomore libero Jean Markovic made the list.

Finally, the men's cross country team had three members make the list. Senior Maxwell Korten, junior Cory Taggert and sophomore Mike Kopach all made the list for their first time.
