Solano Named ECAC DIII South Co-Pitcher of the Week

CENTERVILLE, Mass. --- Senior pitcher Robert Solano of the Moravian College baseball team has been named as the ECAC Division III South Baseball Co-Pitcher of the Week for his performance last week.

Solano, who garnered Landmark Pitcher of the Week accolades on Monday for the second time this spring, opened a Landmark Conference road series at the United States Merchant Marine Academy on Saturday with a 2-0, two-hit shutout victory as the Greyhounds would win the series, 2-1. Solano faced 23 batters, just two over the minimum in the seven-inning contest and threw just 66 pitches with three strikeouts.

Solano in 3-0 this spring, and tossed his first shutout since 2011. He has pitched a team-high 42.1 innings this spring with 26 strikeouts and just six walks.

"Rob was around the plate and stayed ahead of the hitters on Saturday, doing a great job against a very good hitting team," stated Head Coach Paul Engelhardt. "He kept us in a game that we weren't hitting that much but we felt like we were in control the whole time even though it was only 1-0, 2-0. He threw the game that expect out of a senior starter."

Solano shared the award with Zach Kronick from McDaniel College. The full release can be found at http://www.ecacsports.com//sports/spring/bsb/potw/2014/4.15potw.
