Morrin Honored as ECAC DIII South Rookie of the Week

DANBURY, Conn. --- Moravian College freshman pitcher Dan Morrin has been honored as the ECAC Division III South Rookie of the Week for his performance in his collegiate debut on the mound last week.

Morrin, who was also selected as the Landmark Conference Pitcher of the Week, had a strong first start for the Greyhounds, earning the win in Moravian's 8-5 victory over then-No. 12-ranked Marietta (Ohio) College at the Snowbird Classic in Port Charlotte, Florida on Sunday. Morrin pitched the first six frames of the game, and he scattered five hits and not allowing a base on balls. Morrin recorded eight strikeouts in the game that the Hounds were leading 8-0 when he left the mound.

"Dan tossed a great game in his first collegiate start. He was able to control the tempo of the game on the mound, and he had command of the strike zone from the first pitch," stated Head Coach Paul Engelhardt. "It says a lot about a freshman to come out that way against the caliber of a them that Marietta is. He deserves a lot of credit. He was composed, he competed, and he gave us a great chance to get the victory. We are excited to have Dan with us for four years."

The Greyhounds, now 3-1 on the season with three games against teams in the Top 25, are scheduled to open their 2015 Landmark Conference season on Saturday, March 14 with a doubleheader at The Catholic University of America with first pitch scheduled for 1:00 p.m. in Washington, D.C.
