Hounds Fall in Extra Innings to Catholic in Landmark Action

WASHINGTON, D.C. --- The Moravian College baseball team opened its 2015 Landmark Conference schedule, falling 4-3, against The Catholic University of America in extra innings Saturday night at the Nationals Youth Sports Complex.

Moravian connected for 12 hits in the game as senior third basemen Ryan Luke went 2-for-4 with a double and a RBI. Junior first baseman Charles Savite also went 2-for-4 with a double for an RBI while senior shortstop Colin Case was 2-for-5 with a triple and added an RBI on the night.

The Cardinals jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second. The Greyhounds responded taking the lead 3-2 in the top of the fourth when sophomore center fielder Anthony Gaetaniello got the inning started with a single. He would steal second before Case singled to drive in the first run. Savite would double, scoring senior right fielder Matt Hanson, who reached first on the pervious play by an error. Luke followed up with a double of his own, scoring Savite giving the Blue and Grey the lead.

The Cardinals tied things at three a piece in the bottom of the fifth. Case, tripled in the sixth but the team left two on base. Neither team would rally at their last at bat, forcing extra innings. With one out, junior infielder Alex Bull connected for a single, then stole second looking to get things started for the Hounds. Senior Chris Lansberry hit a single of his own and Hanson was intentionally walked. They Greyhounds would leave three players on base. A single in the bottom of the 10th scored a run for the Cardinal's to end the game, 4-3.  

The Greyhounds return to action for a doubleheader on Sunday, March 15 when they take on The Catholic University of America with the first pitch set for 11:00 a.m. in day two of Landmark Conference games.
