Baseball Drops Decision to No. 5 Kean

UNION, N.J. --- The Moravian College baseball team played its fifth nationally-ranked opponent of the season, falling to No. 5 Kean University, 6-1, in non-conference action on the road Monday afternoon.

Junior third baseman Alex Bull was 2-for-2 at the plate to lead the Greyhounds while senior shortstop Colin Case was 2-for-4 in the leadoff spot as the Hounds had seven hits in the contest.

The Blue & Grey nearly took an early lead in the game but stranded runners in scoring position in each of the first three innings including Bull and Case at third base in the second and third innings. Bull had reached third after a single and a wild pitch that got away at the backstop and allowed him to move up two bases.

The Cougars broke onto the scoreboard with three runs in the bottom of the third inning including a pair of unearned runs.

After leaving two more runners on base in the top of the fourth, Moravian cut the deficit to 3-1 with a tally in the top of the fifth frame. Sophomore center fielder Anthony Gaetaniello reached on a fielder's choice, stole second base and moved to third on an infield single by senior right fielder Matt Hanson. Gaetaniello eventually scored on a wild pitch.

The Greyhounds, who left 12 runners on base in the contest, stranded two more in the sixth, two in the eighth and two in the ninth with a total of seven in scoring position throughout the game.

Kean would add a run in the seventh and two more in the eighth to finish off the scoring.

Freshman John Wiedmayer started on the mound for Moravian and recorded one strikeout in four innings of action while freshman Adam Howard tossed three innings with one strikeout. Junior Tommy Natale-Drown also pitched an inning for the Greyhounds.

Moravian will be right back in action on Tuesday, April 7 when the squad hosts Albright College in a non-conference game at Gillespie Field in Bethlehem with first pitch slated for 4:00 p.m.
