Hanson Breaks Stolen Base Mark Versus Albright

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Senior right fielder Matt Hanson had his 51st career stolen base to earn him the top spot in Moravian College record books while adding two hits as the baseball team fell to Albright College, 9-5, in a cold and rainy Tuesday afternoon at Gillespie field.

Hanson was 2-for-4 while freshman third basemen David Wodzsiz and junior outfielder Cameron Leon both went 2-for-3 on the afternoon.

The Greyhounds looked to take the lead as they trailed 1-0 heading into to their first at bat. Hanson would rally with two out for his first hit of the day on a single up the middle. He would steal second and place him in scoring position but would be stranded there. Albright would extend the lead to 7-0 in the top of the fifth.

The Hounds cut the deficit down to four runs in the bottom of the fifth. Wodzsiz singled to center field to start the rally. With runners on first and second, Leon single to center field scoring both runs and he would advance to third on an error. Junior second basemen Matt Nesto doubled for the final run of the inning heading into the top of the sixth with a score of 7-3.

In the bottom sixth frame with two outs with a runner on second, Wodzsiz would connect for his second hit of the day scoring the run cutting the deficit to 9-4. Junior catcher Dylan Runne would be hit by a pitch giving the Blue and Grey runners in scoring position but unfortunately end the inning.

Bottom of the seventh for the Hounds started with freshman infielder Joey Maker drawing a walk. With one out Hanson doubled down the left field line driving in the run and placing him in scoring position. Senior left fielder Justin Pilchman singled to third base advancing the runner. Both runners would be left on base and due to rain that began in the second inning and field conditions, the game was stopped there after seven innings with the Hounds falling, 9-5.

Sophomore Nicolas Ampietro started on the mound for the Greyhounds, striking out four batters in 4.1 innings. Freshman Paul Roth recorded two strikeouts in 1.2 innings of action while freshman Bryan Schoch had one strikeout in an inning of work.

Moravian is heading to Rowan University in a non-conference game on Wednesday, April 8 with the first pitch scheduled for 4:00 p.m. The Greyhounds aren't scheduled to return to Gillespie Field until Wednesday, April 15 at 4:00 p.m. when they host DeSales University.
