Greyhounds Drop Non-Conference Contest to Muhlenberg

ALLENTOWN, Pa. --- The Moravian College baseball team dropped a non-conference game to crosstown rival Muhlenberg College, 13-5, Thursday afternoon in a Matte Award match up  at Cedarcreek Field.

Senior designated hitter Ryan Luke went 3-for-4 with a double to lead the Greyhounds while junior catcher Mike Roethke went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Senior second basemen Alex Longernecker and junior third basemen Alex Bull both went 2-for-5 on the afternoon.

Moravian jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Anthony Gaetaniello led off with a walk and came around to score on a double by Luke and an error in the outfield. Matt Hanson and Charles Savite drew walks to load the bases before an RBI fielder's choice by Justin Pilchman. Roethke added an RBI single for the final run.

The Mules answered with a run in the bottom of the first inning and Muhlenberg scored seven times in the second for an 8-3 lead.

The Greyhounds got a run back in the top of the fourth inning when Hanson hit an RBI sacrifice fly with the bases loaded to score senior second baseman Longernecker.

Muhlenberg scored three times in the fourth and extended the lead to 13-4 with two runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Junior right hander Anthony Zaloga got the start on the mound for the Hounds while senior Chris Lansberry, freshman Adam Howard, junior Hunter Guard and freshman Nicholas Mazzella all saw action.

Moravian returns home to host Juniata College in a Landmark Conference doubleheader on Saturday, April 18 with first pitch scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at Gillespie Field. The Greyhounds will be honoring the 1960 Middle Atlantic Conference Championship team between games on Saturday.
