Baseball at York Cancelled Mid-Game by Heavy Rain

Gillespie Field

YORK, Pa. --- The Moravian College baseball team had its final game of the 2015 regular season, a non-conference contest at York College of Pennsylvania, cancelled after heavy rain moved in during the fifth inning of the contest.

The Greyhounds had scored single runs in the top of the second, fourth and fifth innings for a 3-1 lead on the Spartans. The Blue & Grey needed just three outs for the game to become official after five innings; however, as Moravian prepared for the bottom of the fifth, the York team came rushing out of the dugout to put the tarp on the field, getting in on as heavy rain started to fall.

After a rain delay, the tarp was pulled off and the field was prepared to resume the contest. Just about the time everything was ready to resume, lightning and more rain moved into the area forcing the game to be cancelled. None of the statistics from the contest count since the game did not become an official game.

Moravian, 18-17 overall, will return to action on Saturday, May 2 when the second seeded Greyhounds host third seed Elizabethtown College in the opening day of a best-of-three series in the Landmark Conference Semifinals. The Hounds and the Blue Jays will play a pair of nine-inning games Saturday with first pitch slated for 11:00 a.m. at Gillespie Field. If there is a split on Saturday, the if necessary game takes place on Sunday, May 3 at Gillespie Field at 11:00 a.m. The team that wins the series will advance to the Landmark Conference Championship series on May 8-9 at the highest remaining seed.
