Hanson & Luke Named to D3baseball.com All-Mid-Atlantic Region 3rd Team

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. --- Moravian College seniors right fielder Matt Hanson and third baseman/designated hitter Ryan Luke have been named to the 2015 D3baseball.com All-Mid-Atlantic Region Third Team.

The duo helped the Greyhounds to a 21-20 record this season as Moravian earned the second seed in the 2015 Landmark Conference Tournament with a 13-8 regular season conference slate. The Blue & Grey hosted both a semifinal and the championship best-of-three game series at Gillespie Field earlier this month.

"Both Matt and Ryan are receiving postseason honors beyond the conference for multiple times in their careers. That's quite an accomplishment," commented Head Coach Paul Engelhardt. "The significant thing is both played through injuries and pain this past year. To still have highly productive years, and to be recognized for those efforts, says a lot about both of them. I know they would both want to thank the college community for the support they were given. Administrators, coaches, faculty and staff help create an atmosphere for our student athletes to succeed and be recognized for it."

Hanson, who was also selected to the Landmark All-Conference First Team for a third straight season this spring, hit .355 this year with 55 hits, 29 runs, eight doubles, two triples, one homer, 32 RBIs, 13 walks and 22 stolen bases. Hanson, who was the 2014 Landmark Conference, ECAC Division III South and D3baseball.com Mid-Atlantic Region Player of the Year while earning D3baseball.com Second Team and American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings Third Team All-America honors, set new school records in games played with 160, runs scored with 142 and stolen bases with 62, and he finished his career ranked in the top 10 all-time in at-bats with 562 (second), hits with 210 (second), batting average at .374 (third), RBIs with 116 (fourth), doubles with 39 (fourth), triples with 11 (third), total bases with 283 (second), on-base percentage at .456 (second), slugging percentage at .504 (fifth), walks with 62 (seventh) and hit-by-pitch with 30 (tied for second).

Luke, who made the Landmark All-Conference First Team for a second consecutive spring after being on the Second Team in 2013, split time between third base and as a designated hitter this season due to an injury, and he led the Blue & Grey with a .381 average to go along with 48 hits, 34 runs, nine doubles, one triple, two home runs, 20 RBIs and six stolen bases. Luke, who was also an ABCA/Rawlings Second Team All-Mid-Atlantic Region selection a year ago, finished his Moravian career fourth in games played at 148, tied for fourth in at-bats with 502, tied for sixth in hits with 168, ninth in batting average at .335, eighth in runs at 105, fifth in RBIs with 109, third in doubles with 41, tied for seventh in triples with eight, fifth in total bases with 237, ninth in slugging percentage at .472 and seventh in assists in the field with 236.

The duo are part seven players from Moravian's graduating class that posted a 105-67 mark in four seasons with two appearances in the NCAA Division III National Championship Tournament, four trips to the Landmark Conference Championship game, a school record 32 wins in 2014 and the program's first-ever national ranking in 2014.
