Baseball Opens 2017 Slate on February 24 in Virginia

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College baseball team is set to begin its 2017 season next week with a trip to the Floyd B. Wilcox Tournament hosted by Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia as Head Coach Paul Engelhardt returns 26 players from last year's 22-21 squad that reached the postseason for the eighth straight spring.

The Hounds are scheduled to open the Wilcox Tournament on Friday, February 24 in a game versus Southern Virginia University starting at 11:00 a.m., and Moravian also has games against host Hampden-Sydney on Saturday and Stevenson University on Sunday. Once done with the tournament, the Hounds will head to Kean University on Tuesday, February 28 at 3:30 p.m. for a non-conference contest.

The Blue and Grey then head to the Snowbird Classic in Port Charlotte, Florida during Spring Break for six games. Moravian has a doubleheader with Heidelberg (Ohio) University on March 6 and will also play John Carroll (Ohio) University, Baldwin-Wallace (Ohio) College, Wheaton (Illinois) College and Bluffton (Ohio) University during the week.

Moravian returns to Pennsylvania with a game at rival Muhlenberg College on Wednesday, March 15 at 4:00 p.m., and the Greyhounds will open their 2017 home season the following day on Thursday, March 16 in a non-conference contest versus New Jersey City University at 3:30 p.m. on Gillespie Field.

The Blue and Grey are set to travel to The Catholic University of America on Saturday and Sunday, March 18-19 for a three-game Landmark Conference series as the conference schedule gets underway. The Hounds follow up with a non-conference game at Montclair State University on March 22.

Moravian has just 13 home games scheduled this spring with two four-game home stands. The first home stand features a Landmark Conference series with Elizabethtown College on March 25-26 followed by a non-conference game with Arcadia University on March 28 while the second four-game stretch closes out the regular season as the Hounds host DeSales University on April 26 and a Landmark series with The University of Scranton at Gillespie Field on April 29-30. Moravian's only other home games are a three-game Landmark Conference set with Susquehanna University on April 8-9 and a non-conference contest with Alvernia University on April 19.

The Greyhounds have two games versus teams ranked in the D3baseball/NCBWA Preseason Top 25 with the game at No. 19 Kean on February 28 and a non-conference contest at No. 2 Keystone College on April 5. Susquehanna, Alvernia and Misericorida University also received votes in the poll and are on Moravian's schedule again this spring.

The Landmark Conference Tournament will continue its two-weekend, best-of-three format with the top two seeds hosting three-game semifinals on May 6-7 and the winners meeting at the top remaining seed for another three game series on May 12-13.
