Greyhounds Fall to No. 14 Kean in Late Innings

UNION, N.J. --- The Moravian College baseball team saw a late inning lead slip away as No. 14 Kean University rallied in the eighth inning for a 10-2 win over the visiting Greyhounds Tuesday in non-conference action.

The Hounds, now 2-2 on the spring, had seven hits in the contest with freshman second baseman Ian Csencsits going 2-for-3 with a double. Junior designated hitter David Wodzsiz and sophomore third baseman Evan Kulig were both 2-for-4 with Wodzsiz driving in a run and hitting a triple.

Junior Ryan Kahn made his first start of the year for Moravian and limited the Cougars to a run on four hits and two walks to go with five strikeouts in seven innings of work. Senior Ian Carbone, Kulig and junior Adam Howard worked the eighth inning as Kean scored nine times including five unearned runs.

Moravian jumped out a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning. Freshman outfielder Carmine Palummo reached on a fielder's choice, and Wodzsiz followed with an RBI triple to right center field and he would race home on a throwing error by Kean.

Kahn made the lead hold as he allowed Kean just a single run in the fifth inning while stranding four Cougars on base. After Kahn left the mound to start the bottom of the eighth inning, Kean would score nine times. Moravian would put two runners on base in the top of the ninth inning but leave them there as the Hounds stranded 11 runners on base throughout the contest with nine in scoring position.

The Greyhounds are scheduled to return to action on Monday, March 6 when the squad plays Heidelberg (Ohio) University in a doubleheader in Port Charlotte, Florida with first pitch at 11:00 a.m. to begin Moravian's week at the Snowbird Classic during Spring Break.
