Hounds Selected 2nd in 2017 Landmark Conference Baseball Preseason Poll

TOWSON, Md. --- The Moravian College baseball team has been picked to finish second in the 2017 Landmark Conference Preseason Poll voted on by the conference coaches.

Defending Landmark Conference Champion Susquehanna University was selected first in the poll with three first place votes and 54 points while the Hounds had two first place votes and 46 points. Elizabethtown College and The Catholic University of America each received a first place vote with Elizabethtown finishing third in the poll with 39 points and Catholic in fourth with 33 points.

The Greyhounds, who were 22-21 last season, are aiming for their ninth straight postseason appearance this spring after playing in the Landmark Conference Semifinal series the last two years. Moravian has two Landmark Conference titles with championships in 2010 and 2013.

"It is nice to be respected by the other coaches in the conference with second place in the poll but we need to compete in each weekend series to make the postseason again," commented Head Coach Paul Engelhardt. "Susquehanna is deserving of the top spot after winning the title last year and their run in the NCAA Tournament. I think the conference is getting more and more competitive so you have to play your best every weekend to make sure you're in the top four to make the postseason at the end of April."

Moravian, which is 2-2 already in 2017, is slated to return to action on Monday, March 6 with a doubleheader versus Heidelberg (Ohio) University to kickoff the team's week at the Snowbird Classic in Port Charlotte, Florida.
