Hounds Drop Non-Conference Game to Montclair State at Diamond Nation

FLEMINGTON, N.J. --- The Moravian College baseball team dropped a 7-0 decision to Montclair State University Thursday evening in non-conference action at Diamond Nation in Flemington, New Jersey.

The Greyhounds had five hits with freshman left fielder Carmine Palummo going 2-for-3 with a double at the plate.

Having played just twice since returning from its spring trip to Florida, the Blue and Grey used nine pitchers to give the staff some game work. Junior Nicholas Mazzella made the start and allowed a run while striking out two batters in an inning of work. Junior John Wiedmayer also recorded two strikeouts in his inning of action while junior Dan Morrin, junior Bryan Schoch and sophomore Evan Kulig each had one strikeout. Of the seven runs given up by the Greyhounds, just one was earned with four errors in the game.

The Red Hawks scored once in the first inning before tallying six runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to finish off the scoring.

Moravian is scheduled to return to action on Saturday, March 25 when the Greyhounds travel to Elizabethtown College for a Landmark Conference doubleheader with Moravian serving as the home team with Gillespie Field still unplayable after the winter storm.
