Hounds Win 6th Straight as Morrin Records 100th Career Strikeout

READING, Pa. --- The Moravian College baseball team won its sixth straight game, posting a 7-3 victory at Albright College in non-conference action Monday.

Junior Dan Morrin made the start for Moravian and allowed three hits and a pair of walks to go with nine strikeouts as he became the 16th pitcher in school history to reach 100 career strikeouts. Junior Nicholas Mazzella came to toss one inning with two strikeouts while junior Bryan Schoch pitched one inning with two runs on two hits and a walk. Sophomore Evan Kulig moved over from third base to pitch the ninth inning, allowing a run on two hits and a walk to go with two strikeouts.

The Greyhounds, now 8-12 on the year, had nine hits with sophomore shortstop Joey Ferolie going 2-for-4 with two RBIs and senior center fielder Anthony Gaetaniello collecting two hits with a run, an RBI and a stolen base, the 60th of his career and just three shy of breaking the school record. Sophomore right fielder Austin Markowski contributed two RBIs including his first homer of the season.

Moravian took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fifth inning on an RBI ground out by Gaetaniello as freshman left fielder Carmine Palummo raced home from third to break the scoreless tie.

The Hounds added five runs in the top half of the eighth frame to extend the advantage to 6-0. Markowski drove in the first run with an RBI sacrifice fly to score junior pinch runner La'Ron Smith while junior first baseman Joey Maker followed with an RBI single that plated Gaetaniello. Ferolie connected on a two-RBI single to score Maker and freshman second baseman Ian Csencsits while Palummo drove in the final run as freshman catcher Ian Luberti scored.

The Lions would break onto the scoreboard in the bottom half of the eighth with two runs to cut the deficit to 6-2.

The Blue and Grey answered in the top of the ninth inning as Markowski connected on a solo home run with two outs for a 7-2 advantage. Albright scored one run in the bottom of the ninth to finish the scoring.

Moravian is scheduled to return to action on Wednesday, April 5 in a non-conference game at Keystone College beginning at 4:00 p.m.
