Greyhounds Rally Late at Keystone for Seventh Consecutive Win

LA PLUME, Pa. --- The Moravian College baseball team rallied with runs in the eighth and ninth innings for a 3-2 non-conference win at Keystone College Wednesday as the Greyhounds posted their seventh consecutive victory.

The Blue and Grey, now 9-12 this spring, had 11 hits with junior first baseman Joey Maker going 3-for-5 with an RBI. Sophomore right fielder Austin Markowski was 2-for-2 while sophomore shortstop Matt Stalter and sophomore Tim Heard each had RBIs.

Moravian used six pitchers in the game with senior Ian Carbone tossing 5.1 innings as the starter, and Carbone allowed two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out seven batters. Junior Ryan Kahn earned the victory with an inning of relief that included two strikeouts while sophomore Evan Kulig earned his first career save with a strikeout in the ninth after playing the first eight innings at third base. Sophomore Rhett Jacoby had two strikeouts in 1.1 innings of action while sophomores Kevin Shields and Billy Roethke each made appearances on the mound.

Keystone took a 1-0 lead with a run in the third inning. Moravian responded in the top of the fourth frame to tie the game as sophomore designated hitter Mike Mittl scored on an RBI ground out by Stalter.

The Giants moved back ahead with a runs in the sixth inning for a 2-1 edge. The Hounds tied the game with a run on the eighth inning when Markowski led off with a single and scored on a pinch-hit RBI single by Heard with two outs.

Moravian would earn the win with a run in the ninth inning as freshman second baseman Ian Csencsits drew a walk to lead off the frame and scored on a bases loaded RBI single by Maker. Kulig would allow one runner on base in the bottom of the ninth before the Hounds turned a double play to end the contest.

The Greyhounds are scheduled to return to action on Saturday, April 8 when they host Susquehanna University in a Landmark Conference doubleheader to begin a weekend series. First pitch is slated for 1:00 p.m. at Gillespie Field as Moravian hosts its Second Annual Strikeout Prostate Cancer Blue Out.
