Moravian Falls at Misericordia in Non-Conference Action

DALLAS, Pa. --- The Moravian College baseball team fell to Misericordia University, 6-4, in non-conference action Tuesday afternoon.

The Greyhounds had 11 hits in the game with sophomore outfielder Austin Markowski going 2-for-3 while reaching base four times. Freshman left fielder Carmine Palummo had a 2-for-4 game while junior first baseman Joey Maker and sophomore shortstop Matt Stalter each posted 2-for-5 performances. Maker added a double, a triple and an RBI for the Greyhounds.

Junior Nicholas Mazzella started on the mound for the Blue and Grey and tossed six innings with five runs on four hits to go with six strikeouts. Junior Bryan Schoch and senior Ian Carbone each tossed an inning with Carbone adding a strikeout.

The Cougars jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning, and Misericorida added three more runs in the second for a 5-0 edge.

Moravian plated three runs in the top of the fifth inning to cut the deficit to 5-3. Sophomore third baseman Evan Kulig reached on an error that allowed senior center fielder Anthony Gaetaniello and sophomore second baseman Tim Heard to score. Maker followed with an RBI triple as Kulig raced home.

The Greyhounds pulled within a run on the top of the seventh inning when Maker doubled and was caught in a rundown as Markowski raced home. The Cougars added an unearned run in the bottom half of the seventh to finish off the scoring.

Moravian is scheduled to return to action on Wednesday, April 12 in a non-conference game at Rowan University beginning at 4:00 p.m.
