Baseball Falls to DeSales in Non-Conference Action

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College baseball team dropped a 15-5 decision to DeSales University in non-conference action at Gillespie Field Wednesday afternoon.

The Greyhounds had nine hits in the game with senior center fielder Anthony Gaetaniello going 2-for-5 with a run. Sophomore outfielder Chase Rogers drove in two runs with a hit in his only official at-bat.

Moravian used seven pitchers in the game as the Blue and Grey tried to get some arms action. Junior Dan Morrin made the start with two strikeouts in two innings as Morrin took the loss. Junior John Wiedmayer recorded two strikeouts in his inning of action while junior Ryan Kahn had two strikeouts in 1.2 innings on the mound. Junior Nicholas Mazzella had a pair of strikeouts in two innings while junior Adam Howard had one strikeout in his inning long appearance. Sophomores Kevin Shields and Billy Roethke also pitched in the game.

DeSales scored the first 14 runs of the game with four in the first, one in the second, seven in the fourth and two in the sixth.

Moravian would get onto the scoreboard in the bottom of the seventh inning when junior first baseman Logan Welles reached on an error and crossed the plate on an RBI sacrifice fly by sophomore catcher Steve Lazicki.

After the Bulldogs scored their final run in the top of the eighth, the Greyhounds pushed a run across the plate in the bottom half of the inning when Gaetaniello singled and scored on a bases loaded RBI walk by freshman outfielder Carmine Palummo.

The Hounds pushed three runs across the plate in the ninth inning to finish off the scoring. Junior pinch hitter Ezra Rawdon connected on an RBI double to score Lazicki, who had started the frame with a single. Rogers followed with a two-RBI single to plate Rawdon and sophomore second baseman Joey Ferolie, who was hit by a pitch.

Moravian is scheduled to return to action on Saturday, April 29 when the Greyhounds host The University of Scranton in a Landmark Conference doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m. at Gillespie Field on Senior Day.
