HAMPDEN SYDNEY, Va. --- The Moravian College baseball team posted its second straight shutout to begin the 2018 season, defeating host Hampden-Sydney (Va.) College, 2-0, to open action on the second day of the Floyd B. Wilcox Memorial Tournament Saturday.

Senior Nicholas Mazzella earned his first win of the year on the mound, allowing four hits and three walks while striking out six batters in six innings of work while junior Brendon Caraway earned his first save for the Blue and Grey after allowing just one hit and striking out three over the final three innings.

The Greyhounds took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning. Sophomore right fielder Carmine Palummo was hit by a pitch with two outs, stole second base and scored on an RBI single by sophomore second baseman Ian Csencsits.

The Hounds added an insurance run for a 2-0 advantage in the top of the ninth inning. Junior third baseman Evan Kulig led off the frame with a double and advanced to third on a throw. After a walk by senior first baseman Logan Welles, junior left fielder Mike Mittl hit an RBI fielder's choice that chased Kulig across the plate.

Moravian was limited to four hits in the game with Kulig going 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles.

The Greyhounds are scheduled to close out their trip to the Floyd B. Wilcox Memorial Tournament on Sunday, February 25 when the squad will play Wesley (Del.) College in an 11:00 a.m. contest.
