Caraway's Outing Leads Greyhounds to Non-Conference Win over Keystone

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College baseball team shook off allowing an early run to post a 5-3 victory over visiting Keystone College in non-conference action at Gillespie Field Wednesday afternoon.

The Greyhounds, now 14-12 overall, received a strong pitching performance from junior Brendon Caraway, who earned his first win of the season after allowing three runs, two earned, on six hits and two walks to go along with seven strikeouts in seven innings of action. Junior Billy Roethke struck out one batter and allowed a hit while tossing the eighth inning, and junior Rhett Jacoby picked up his second save of the season after facing four batters in the ninth inning.

The Hounds collected 10 hits at the plate with junior center fielder Austin Markowski going 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles and two RBIs. Senior first baseman Logan Welles was 2-for-3 with an RBI while sophomore second baseman Ian Csencsits went 2-for-4 with two runs and a double.

The Giants took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning with an unearned run.

Moravian answered in the bottom of the second to knot the score at 1-1 when Markowski walked to lead off the inning, moved to third on a single by Welles and raced home on a double play.

The Greyhounds took the lead for good with three runs in the bottom of the third frame. Junior shortstop Matt Stalter singled to lead off the inning, and Csencsits connected on a one-out single. Junior third baseman Evan Kulig reach on an error to load the bases before Markowski drove a two-RBI double to center field to bring in Stalter and Csencsits. Welles followed with an RBI sacrifice fly on a deep foul ball down the left field line to bring in Kulig.

Keystone scored a single run in the top of the fifth but the Blue and Grey answered right back in the bottom of the frame for a 5-2 edge. Csencsits led off with a double and Markowski connected on a one-out single. Welles hit a shallow single to right field to load the bases before senior designated hitter David Wodzisz hit an RBI ground out to bring Csencsits across the plate again.

The Giants finished off the scoring with a run in the top of the seventh inning.

Moravian is scheduled to return to action on Saturday, April 14 when the squad hosts Drew University in a Landmark Conference doubleheader beginning at 12:30 p.m. at Gillespie Field as the Greyhounds celebrate Senior Day.
