Baseball Opens 2018 Landmark Conference Tournament Play on May 11 Versus Catholic

The baseball team begins the 2018 Landmark Conference Tournament on May 11 at 3:30 p.m. against The Catholic University of America.

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College baseball team makes its return to the Landmark Conference Tournament on Friday, May 11 when the fourth seeded Greyhounds take on top seed The Catholic University of America in the opening game of the double-elimination tournament being hosted by The University of Scranton at Charles J. Volpe Family Field.

First pitch of the game is slated for 3:30 p.m. The second seed Elizabethtown College and third seed Royals will play the second game on Friday at 7:00 p.m. The tournament will run through Sunday, May 13 with the winner receiving the conference's automatic berth to the 2018 NCAA Division III National Championship Tournament. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for seniors while children under 10 and all Landmark Conference students, faculty and staff with ID are free. The Greyhounds, under the direction of 12th-year head coach Paul Engelhardt who has a career mark of 271-214, have posted an 18-20 overall record this spring. Moravian recorded a 9-9 slate in the Landmark regular season, and Engelhardt has the program in the postseason for the ninth time. The Hounds enter the tournament hitting .297 with 388 hits, 62 doubles, 11 triples, 14 home runs and 42 stolen bases.

Senior third baseman Evan Kulig leads the Blue and Grey at the plate with 55 hits, a .387 average, 26 runs, 13 doubles, a triple and 39 RBIs while sophomore right fielder Carmine Palummo has added a .365 average, 42 hits, 32 runs, two doubles, 12 RBIs and 14 stolen bases. Sophomore second baseman Ian Csencsits has a .342 average, 39 hits, 33 runs, seven doubles, two triples, two homers, 25 walks and 18 RBIs while junior center fielder Austin Markowski has contributed a .326 average, 44 hits, 32 runs, 12 doubles, a triple, seven homers, 26 walks and 36 RBIs.

Junior left fielder Mike Mittl has 40 hits, 14 runs, seven doubles and 25 RBIs while senior first baseman/designated hitter Joey Maker has 21 hits, 14 runs, two doubles, a triple and six RBIs. Junior shortstop Matt Stalter has 21 hits, 14 runs, three doubles and six RBIs while freshman shortstop Michael Miceli has also contributed 21 hits to go with 10 runs, a triple and five RBIs and senior first baseman Logan Welles has 21 hits, 10 runs, two doubles, a triple, three homers and 16 RBIs.

Junior catcher Chase Rogers has 19 hits with 13 runs, six doubles, a triple, two homers and 16 RBIs while senior third baseman David Wodzisz has added 16 hits, nine runs, a double, a triple and nine RBIs. Sophomore second baseman Tim Heard has 10 hits, eight runs, two doubles, two triples and four RBIs while freshman outfielder Thomas Philipps has nine hits and a run. Junior catcher Andrew Koenig has nine hits, five runs and four RBIs while junior catcher Steve Lazicki has added five hits, a run and an RBI.

Junior infielder Joey Ferolie and senior catcher Ezra Rawdon each have four hits and two runs with Rawdon adding three RBIS and Ferolie driving in one run. Senior first baseman Clay Weidemoyer has contributed three hits, two runs, two doubles and two RBIs while senior outfielder La'Ron Smith has two hits, three runs, a double and an RBI. Sophomore infielder Kole Rodrigues has two hits and two runs for the Greyhounds while sophomore catcher Ian Luberti has one hit on the year.

On the mound, junior Rhett Jacoby is 5-2 with two saves, a 2.34 ERA, 51 strikeouts, six walks, two complete games and a shutout in 65.1 innings. Senior Nicholas Mazzella has a 5-4 record with 36 strikeouts and two complete games in 51 innings while senior Dan Morrin has 57 strikeouts and a 3-3 mark in 40 innings. Kulig has a 2-2 mark and 28 strikeouts in 34.2 innings on the mound while junior Brendon Caraway has a 1-2 mark with a save and 25 strikeouts in 36.1 innings.

Junior Tyler Caraway has added a 1-2 record and 18 strikeouts in 18.1 innings while sophomore Connor Morro has tossed 20.1 innings with 17 strikeouts and a 1-1 mark. Freshman Kyle Serman has pitched 12.2 innings with five strikeouts while junior Billy Roethke has tossed 15 innings with a pair of strikeouts and a 2.40 ERA. Freshman Rodney Berger has pitched nine innings with four strikeouts while junior Kevin Shields seven strikeouts in nine innings. Senior Adam Howard has tossed 3.2 innings with five strikeouts while freshman Johnny Apgar has pitched 1.2 inning and freshman Cade Stoneback has tossed an inning with a strikeout.
