Olsen Tosses Four-Hit Shutout as Moravian Blanks Juniata to Win Landmark Conference Series

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University baseball squad posted a 4-0 win over visiting Juniata College at Gillespie Field Sunday afternoon to win the Landmark Conference series behind a four-hit shutout from senior pitcher Eddie Olsen. 

How It Happened

• The Greyhounds scored the only run Olsen ended up needing in the bottom of the first inning. Junior shortstop Mason Fisher hit a one-out single and moved into scoring position on a single off the bat of junior second baseman Chris Pow. Junior catcher Derek Holmes followed with an RBI single through the left side as Fisher raced home from second base
• The contest would remain 1-0 until the seventh inning when the Blue and Grey scored three times. Senior outfielder Robert Roman drew a walk to lead off the frame, and he raced home from second on a one-out RBI double by Fisher. After the second out of the inning, Holmes ripped an RBI double to left field to bring in Fisher, and Holmes scored the final run of the afternoon as he came across the plate on an RBI single off the bat of graduate student first baseman Brett Holmes 

Inside the Numbers

• Moravian had 14 hits in the game with Holmes going 3-for-3 with a pair of RBIs, a double and a run. Senior third baseman David Bertolotti also had three hits, going 3-for-4
• Roman had a 2-for-3 afternoon with a run while sophomore outfielder David Olsakowski was 2-for-4 while Fisher had two hits, an RBI and scored twice
• Olsen allowed one walk in addition to the four hits, and he also recorded seven strikeouts to increase his career mark to 113, which is the 13th highest total in program history. Olsen also improved to 11-9 in his career for the Hounds with his sixth career complete game
• The shutout was the first of Olsen's career, and the first complete-game shutout by a single Moravian pitcher since April 7, 2018 when Rhett Jacoby posted a 2-0 win at Susquehanna University
