BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University baseball squad earned its fourth shutout of the season Monday afternoon at Gillespie Field as the Greyhounds used five pitchers to blank visiting Rosemont College, 9-0, in non-conference action.

How It Happened

  • The Hounds scored the only run they would need in the bottom of the third inning when sophomore outfielder Matt Madigan connected on a two-out infield single before racing all the way home from first base on an RBI double by senior outfielder Robert Roman
  • Moravian plated four runs in the bottom of the fourth to extend the edge to 5-0. Junior designated hitter Derek Holmes drew a walk to lead off the frame, and he circled the bases on an RBI double down the right field line from graduate student Brett Moyer. The Blue and Grey loaded the bases with two outs on an infield single from sophomore third baseman Paul Croyle and senior outfielder Elias Engelhardt being hit by a pitch. Madigan ripped a two-RBI single up the middle to bring home Moyer and Croyle while Engelhardt raced across the plate on an RBI single off Roman's bat
  • The Greyhounds scored another run in the home half of the fifth as Croyle connected on an RBI single through the right side to bring in junior shortstop Mason Fisher, who had walked to start the inning
  • Moravian finished off the scoring with three runs in the bottom of the seventh. Sophomore pinch hitter Cole Cherkas and Moyer were both hit by pitches before junior second baseman Chris Pow walked to load the bases. Croyle ripped a two-RBI double to right field as Cherkas and Moyer trotted home. Sophomore pinch hitter David Olsakowski had an RBI groundout to score Pow with the final run of the contest
