Why did you choose Moravian College?
A couple of years ago, my cousin graduated from Moravian College. At the graduation, I fell in love with the beautiful campus and the small school atmosphere.
What is your major and why?
Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and minor in Business Management. I chose this major because my dream is to be the head of a human resource's department at a company. This major helps me to understand people, communication, and relations. My minor has provided me with the business skills required to work in a professional atmosphere.
What has been your favorite course at Moravian and why?
My favorite course at Moravian was Organization Theory with Professor Wright. This course taught me the fundamentals of business, which sparked my interest in minoring in it.
What are your plans for the future once you finish your degree at Moravian?
Upon graduation from Moravian, I plan to start my career in a Human Resources department for a company.
What is your most memorable moment as a Greyhound?
My most memorable moment as a Greyhound was when my team won Nationals last year at the Reach the Beach competition in Ocean City, Maryland.
How has being an athlete helped you as a student?
Being a student athlete has taught me many things, but the most useful skill I gained was time management. I learned how to balance school work with practices, workouts, games, and competitions. Our season runs from August to April, which is the majority of the school year. Therefore, I learned strong organizational and time management skills to stay on top of all assignments as well as fulfill my duties as captain of the cheerleading team.
What is the hardest part of your sport?
The hardest part of Cheerleading is that it is not an individually based sport. Every girl is an important asset to the team because without one person the whole routine would be affected. Cheerleading is unique because every cheerleader is a valuable member that cannot be interchangeable. Missing one girl at a practice can affect the whole team causing us not to be able to build certain stunts or perform to the best of our abilities.
Name one obstacle or form of adversity you have had to overcome.
A constant challenge cheerleaders have is not being taking seriously as a sport. We have to face the negative stigma of cheerleading not being considered a "real" sport. We are taken a lot less seriously than many other sports on campus. It is unfortunate to be classified under this stereotype, but our team does a really good job of pushing past the negativity.
Why is community service important to your role as a student-athlete at Moravian?
As a student‐athlete at Moravian, I represent not only myself on the mats but also my family, school and community. I have an obligation to give back as acknowledgement for their encouragement and support. I have competed in cheering competitions my whole life and they have blessed me with an amazing supportive community. The least I could do is give back to those who support and love this sport as much as I do.
What advice do you have for a prospective Moravian College student-athlete?
I have had the opportunity to meet and chat with multiple prospective Moravian College student-athletes. The best advice I have shared with them is to do this sport whole-heartedly. The effort you put forth while you play reflects the effort you put into academics, jobs, and relationships. Participating in a sport is the best way to use leadership skills and determination. What you put into this experience is what you will get out.
