Negron Honored as Corvias ECAC Division III Southwest Offensive Player of the Week

CENTERVILLE, Mass. --- Moravian College freshman running back Chris Negron is piling up awards the same way he has been piling up yards the last two weeks after being named the Corvias ECAC Division III Southwest Offensive Player of the Week for his game against Gettysburg College last Saturday.

Negron has also been selected as the Centennial Conference Offensive Player of the Week for the second consecutive week, and he earned a spot on the D3football.com Team of the Week Presented by Scoutware for his career-high 251 yards versus the Bullets. Negron also carried the ball a career-best 37 times while scoring twice on touchdown runs of nine and 18 yards in the game.

Over the last two weeks, Negron has picked up 469 yards and four touchdowns on 63 carries, and he has also broken Tim Barlok's freshman rushing record of 665 yards. Negron at 869 yards needs just 131 yards over the final two weeks of the season to become just the third player in school history to rush for 1,000 yards in a season. His 251-yard game was the fourth best in the Moravian record books, and it was the third best by a freshman in Centennial Conference history. Negron is just the eighth running back in the 30-year history of the conference to run for over 200 yards in back-to-back games.

"Chris is really starting to hit his stride as a college running back," stated Head Coach Jeff Pukszyn. "The transition to college, not only as an athlete, but as a student takes the freshman some time to get used to. Chris is finally comfortable, and it is translating onto the practice field and on game day. We recruited Chris because we felt we could have games like Saturday on a weekly basis and are looking forward to all of the snaps and games he still has to play in his career."

Moravian closes out its 2013 home season on Saturday, November 9 when the Greyhounds welcome Juniata College to Rocco Calvo Field for a Centennial Conference game. Kickoff is slated for 12:00 p.m., and Moravian will also be celebrating Senior Day and the 2013 Hall of Fame Class that will be inducted Friday evening.
