BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Moravian College Head Football Coach Jeff Pukszyn has announced that senior defensive back Anthony Orlando and junior wide receiver Jalen Snyder-Scipio have been selected as the captains of the 2015 Greyhounds' squad.
"Jalen and Anthony are two players that made immediate impacts on our program when they transferred in two years ago," commented Pukszyn. "Jalen's attitude and work ethic are off the chart. He is a high character person who is well respected by his peers and it shows by being elected captain as a junior. He is a big target for quarterback Mike Hayes, especially in the red zone. Anthony is an explosive player who always shows up around the ball. He has a very high football IQ. He had an outstanding offseason and is a great leader on defense as well as the team."
Orlando has played in 18 games for the Greyhounds in the last two years, missing a pair of games last fall while battling an injury. He has 154 tackles, four sacks, three tackles for loss, one interception, two passes defended, three recovered fumbles with a pair returned for touchdowns and one forced fumble in a Moravian uniform. Orlando has also earned postseason honors each season as a Hound, making the Centennial All-Conference First Team, the ECAC Division III South All-Star First Team and D3football.com All-South Region Second Team in his first year with the Greyhounds in 2013 and the Centennial All-Conference Second Team a year ago. Orlando is majoring in sociology with a minor in law and society, and he was named to the 2014 Centennial Conference Fall Academic Honor Roll that honors student-athletes that have over a 3.40 GPA as a sophomore, junior or senior and are a starter or significant reserve for their team.
Snyder-Scipio has been a big target for the Moravian offense over the last 20 games with 86 catches for 995 yards and nine touchdowns. He needs just five yards to become the 17th player in school history to reach 1,000 career receiving yards, and Snyder-Scipio is already 10th in school history in receptions and needs just 14 catches to become the eighth Greyhounds to catch 100 career passes. He is one touchdown reception from joining the top ten all-time at Moravian. Snyder-Scipio is majoring in nursing at Moravian and was also a member of the Centennial Conference Fall Academic Honor Roll in 2014.
"Both Jalen and Anthony not only excel on the field but in the classroom as well," noted Pukszyn. "Both are Dean's List students and are active in community service. Both young men are outstanding representatives of the Greyhound football family and Moravian College."
The Hounds are ready to report to campus on Saturday, August 15 to check in for preseason camp with the first practice for the 2015 season set for Sunday afternoon. The Greyhounds will kickoff their schedule on Saturday, September 5 in a non-conference game at King's College beginning at 6:00 p.m. It is Moravian's first night game since 2007.
