Wachter Named Centennial Conference Special Teams Athlete of the Week

LANCASTER, Pa. --- Moravian College senior kicker Jerome Wachter has been named the Centennial Conference Special Teams Athlete of the Week for his performance in the Greyhounds' 34-19 victory over Franklin & Marshall College on Saturday.

Wachter scored 10 of Moravian's 34 points in the game with a pair of field goals and four extra-points, and the 10 points are tied for the ninth most in a single game in school history. Wachter connected on a career-long of 35 yards in the first quarter of the Homecoming victory, and then he hit a 31-yard field goal with just under three minutes left in the game. Wachter's four extra points upped his season total to 28 PATs, just three shy of Chad Kurtz's record of 31 set during the 1993 season. Wachter kicked off eight times on Saturday, averaging 50.8 yards per kickoff.

"We as a coaching staff as well as his teammates have a lot of confidence in Jerome right now, and more importantly, Jerome has a lot of confidence in himself," stated Head Coach Jeff Pukszyn. "He works really hard each day in practice, and you have to remember, Jerome grew up playing soccer and really didn't start kicking footballs until he joined us last fall. Being able to send him out there to get us points against the quality teams on our schedule has helped make us a better team this fall."

Moravian, which is 6-1 overall and 5-1 in Centennial Conference action, is scheduled to return to action on Saturday, October 31 when the Greyhounds host Gettysburg College at Rocco Calvo Field. Kickoff is slated for 1:00 p.m. in the Hounds' annual Take a Kid to the Game event.
