Moravian Announces 2016 Football Captains

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Seniors quarterback Mike Hayes, running back Chris Negron, defensive lineman John Snyder and wide receiver Jalen Snyder-Scipio  have been selected as the captains of the 2016 Moravian College football squad.

Hayes is entering his third season as the Hounds starting quarterback in 2016, and he has completed 330-of-579 passes for 3,898 yards with 29 touchdowns and 20 interceptions in his career. He begins the season tied for sixth in school history in passing yards, fifth in completions, sixth in attempts and tied for sixth in touchdown passes.

Negron begins his fourth season as the starting running back for Moravian ranked second in school history with 3,335 yards, just 520 shy of the school record. He is third all-time with 647 attempts and 31 rushing touchdowns, and Negron has 34 overall touchdowns in his career with three receiving scores to rank second in the Greyhound record books, just three touchdowns away from the school mark. Negron is a three-time Centennial All-Conference Second Team selection and was on the D3football.com All-South Region Third Team last fall.

Snyder is in his fourth year as a starter on the defensive line for the Hounds. He has made 114 tackles in his career to go along with 18 and a half tackles for loss, eight sacks, six passes defended, two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and a blocked kick. Snyder has been named to the Centennial All-Conference Honorable Mention list in each of the last three years.

Snyder-Scipio is in his second year as a team captain for the Greyhounds, and he enters his fourth year ranked third in school history with 132 receptions. Snyder-Scipio is eighth all-time at Moravian with 1,482 receiving yards, and his 13 career touchdown receptions are tied for sixth in the record book. Snyder-Scipio earned a spot on the Centennial All-Conference Second Team in 2015, and he was also one of two Greyhounds to make the Centennial Conference All-Academic Team after earning both All-Conference honors and a spot on the Centennial Conference Fall Academic Honor Roll.

"These four young men have been the catalyst for the program's turnaround during their career, going from 2-8 as freshman to 5-5 and then last year's 8-3 mark that included a postseason game," stated Head Coach Jeff Pukyszn. "Their leadership not only comes through on the field, but in their work ethic off the field and in the weight room. They also excel in the classroom and serve as role models for the rest of our program. While some might not be the most vocal of leaders, they all let their actions speak much louder than their words."

The Greyhounds are scheduled to kick off their 2016 season on Saturday, September 3 in a non-conference game versus King's College at 1:00 p.m. at Rocco Calvo Field in Bethlehem.
