Hayes Selected as Centennial Conference Offensive Athlete of the Week

LANCASTER, Pa. --- Moravian College senior quarterback Mike Hayes has been selected as the Centennial Conference Offensive Athlete of the Week for his performance in the Greyhounds' 42-30 win at Juniata College on Saturday afternoon.

Hayes, who earned his second Centennial Conference Offensive Athlete of the Week honor for the season, returned to action after missing a game and a total of five and a half quarters with an injury to complete 34-of-51 passes for a school record 516 yards and four touchdowns and break the Moravian College career passing mark against the Eagles. Hayes set a school mark with his 34 completions and tied the single game record with four touchdowns.

Hayes has now thrown for 6,306 yards, the third quarterback in school history to reach the 6,000-yard milestone, and he broke Rob Light's mark of 6,203 yards on a 65-yard touchdown strike in the third quarter. Hayes added seven rushing attempts for six yards for a school-record total of 522 yards of total offense in the victory.

"Mike has been outstanding all season, and his preparation this past week coming back from his injury showed at Juniata," commented Head Coach Jeff Pukszyn. "He has been an outstanding leader on the field the last three seasons, and it is great to see him setting all of these records. He works hard off of the turf and it pays off on Saturdays."

The Greyhounds are scheduled to close out their 2016 regular season on Saturday, November 12 when rival Muhlenberg College comes to Rocco Calvo Field for a Centennial Conference game kicking off at 12:00 p.m.
