Field Hockey Aims High as 2014 Begins Saturday

Bethlehem, Pa.---The Moravian College field hockey team finished last season with a 9-8 overall record, four matches going into overtime, one being double overtime.  Head Coach Amy Endler who is starting her 12th season with the program is anticipating an even stronger showing this year in the competitive Landmark Conference.

"The girls have been working really hard this preseason and we are all working for the same thing. We want to make playoffs, which is something we have never done before. We know it's going to be tough the Landmark is a very strong conference but I think we have the talent," stated Endler.

Part of that talent is senior midfielder Catherine Duffin who was named captain. Duffin earned a program milestone by being the first member to earn Landmark All-Conference First Team honors. She led the team in points, assists and tied for first in goals, and was ranked 10th on the all-time goals list, tied at 4th for assists and 8th in points in a season at Moravian College.

"Catherine's skills are tremendous. She makes everyone around her better. After playing a more defensive role in the midfield last season I will expect more goals from her this year with moving her to the top of the diamond formation," said Endler

Senior captain Emily Marley and fellow senior defensemen Bryn Tafuri will look to hold opponents from scoring by keeping the defensive line strong while playing in front of sophomore goalkeeper Megan Kanyuk.

Endler spoke about her defense "Emily and Bryn are both strong players and work well together. They will control the ball on the defensive end and can do some really nice things back there," commented Endler. "Megan has definitely improved from last year and is going to be tested this year. She is working really hard and has what it takes and I can't wait to see."

The Blue and Grey are looking to improve their record by scoring more and using the experience and leadership from a group of six who has been together for past three years. In the hopes of creating a playoff run the Hounds will use their schedule to their advantage, having eight games before a conference match.

The Greyhounds are on the road at 12:00 p.m. this Saturday, August 30 at DeSales University
