Hamel Honored on CoSIDA Academic All-America DIII Women's At-Large 2nd Team

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Moravian College senior Rebecca Hamel has been named to the 2015-16 CoSIDA Academic All-America NCAA Division III Women's At-Large Second Team selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America. The At-Large team consists of student-athletes that compete in beach volleyball, bowling, fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming, tennis, and water polo.

Hamel is the 44th Moravian student-athlete to be named a CoSIDA Academic All-American®. To be eligible for CoSIDA Academic All-America® accolades, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.30 grade-point average, be a sophomore, junior or senior and be a starter or significant reserve. Beginning in 2011-12, the program is made up of four levels – NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and College Division (NAIA, Canadian colleges and junior colleges). Hamel was on the All-District IV First Team last month to make the national ballot, and District IV in NCAA Division III is made up of schools from Pennsylvania.

"This is a tremendous honor for Rebecca and one that is well deserved," stated Head Coach Amy Endler. "To be selected as one of the top 30 student-athletes, not only in field hockey, but among 12 other sports nationally, is truly outstanding. I am very proud of Rebecca and all that she has accomplished at Moravian over the past four years. I couldn't be happier for her."

Hamel scored two goals and added two assists for the Greyhounds this past fall while starting in all 18 matches for Moravian this season. During her career, Hamel was a four-time selection to the ZAG/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III Scholars of Distinction and the NFHCA Division III Academic Squad, and she was a three-time honoree on the Landmark Conference Fall Academic Honor Roll. She started 53 of 65 matches played and served as a team captain in 2015. Hamel had seven goals and four assists for 18 career points to go with a pair of game-winning goals and a defensive save.

Hamel finished her Bachelor's degree in physics and mathematics at Moravian with a perfect 4.0 grade-point average this past May as she earned spots on the Dean's List in each of her eight semesters in Bethlehem.
