BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Moravian College has named Kristen Gillis as its next Head Field Hockey Coach with Gillis assuming her role on April 17.
"We are very excited to have Kristen join the Greyhound family," stated Interim Director of Athletics Scot Dapp. "She came to us highly recommended and I was very impressed with her during the interview process. We are looking forward to her leadership in this new era in Greyhound field hockey."
Gillis comes to Moravian after two seasons as the Head Field Hockey Coach at New England College in Henniker, New Hampshire. She also worked as the Pilgrims Assistant Sports Information Director and Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Advisor. Prior to heading to New England, Gillis was an assistant coach at Goucher College, one of the Greyhounds' Landmark Conference opponents for two seasons. She also worked for five years at Loyola University in Maryland, first as a Compliance Coordinator and then as Assistant Director Records, NCAA Athletic Eligibility.
"I was drawn to the position at Moravian because of the school history, location and growth opportunity," Gillis said. "The rich history of the school creates an atmosphere that really embodies the current students and alum, its Mid-Atlantic location is perfect for field hockey and I believe there is a great opportunity to turn the program around with all of the resources the college has through their academic and athletics programs. My expectation of the program in the upcoming seasons is to create a lasting culture of success on and off the field.
"Having been a part of Goucher College's own turnaround in the Landmark Conference and knowing the similarities the two schools have, I know what it takes to have a team rise in this conference," Gillis continued. "I truly believe the program will progress each year and with such a young roster it will be great to see how the players step up to the challenge in the next seasons."
Gillis earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in kinesiology with a minor in psychology from the College of William and Mary in 2008, and she completed a Master of Science degree in kinesiology with a concentration in sport and recreation leadership at James Madison University in 2010. Gillis was also the Co-Director/Founder of Velocity Field Hockey from 2014-16 with U14, U16 and U19 teams while also serving as a Head Club Coach for TNT Field Hockey's U16 and U19 teams from 2011 to 2014.
