BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College field hockey team dropped its 2017 season opener and the first match under new Head Coach Kristen Gillis, falling to DeSales University in non-conference action on John Makuvek Field Saturday afternoon.

The Bulldogs scored in the 19th minute and led 1-0 at halftime before scoring just 28 seconds into the second half to take a 2-0 lead. DeSales added a goal in the 58th minute to finish off the scoring.

The Greyhounds nearly got on the scoreboard in the 25th minute on a shot by sophomore midfielder/forward Kylie Mastricola but the Bulldogs' keeper was able to stop the shot.

"Today was the first step in a long progress of growing as a team," commented Gillis. "There were many positives to take away and also made us aware of the items to work on this week. Now we look ahead to Thursday and the next step of growing we can do then."

Moravian freshman goalie Ashley Kunsman made nine saves in her first collegiate match.

The Greyhounds are scheduled to return to action on Thursday, September 7 in the squad's first road and night match of the year when the Blue and Grey head to FDU-Florham for a 7:00 p.m. match.
