BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College field hockey squad dropped a Landmark Conference decision by a score of 4-1 to the No. 12 ranked Catholic University of America Saturday afternoon.
The Greyhounds defense stood tall in the first half, holding the Cardinals to a 1-0 lead into the intermission after taking 21 shots, with 12 being on goal, and a defensive save coming from junior defender Emily Duddy in the 28th minute. Catholic would add three more goals in the second half to extend their lead to 4-0.
In the 66th minute, sophomore midfielder Olivia Schlofer would take a penalty stroke and put it past the keeper for Schlofer's third penalty stroke conversion and eighth goal on the year.
"Today everything finally clicked," commented first-year Head Coach Kristen Gillis. "Our defense did their jobs and our offense created opportunities. This is the game we have been looking for all season. We are excited for the next couple games to grow even more."
Moravian freshman goalie Ashley Kunsman started in the cage and had ten saves in the first half of action and added three saves in the second half for a game total of 13 saves.
The Greyhounds are slated to get back in action on Wednesday, October 18 when the squad hosts rival Muhlenberg College in a non-conference contest beginning at 7:00 p.m. on John Makuvek Field.
